Private comany parking tickets

The facts....

I was parked at Glasgow Western Infirmary in May while i was in the hospital servicing Lung Function equipment.
I was parked for around 5 hours.
There is a 3 hour free parking period .
Park there over 3 hours and you get a ticket from CP plus.
I returned to car after i had finished and went home.
Nothing on my car to say i had parked longer than allowed.


3 weeks ago my work received a letter from Debt Recovery plus wanting £40 for my vehicle being parked longer than allowed.
They have a charge notice number from CP plus so it looks like it was recorded on their system that i had been parked more than 3 hours.

There was no ticket on my car when i returned to it.

I have written to both companies and asked CP plus to provide evidence that i was ticketed.

What do you think my chances will be ?
If they send me a photo with the ticket on my car , i will pay it.
I'm not disputing that i was parked longer than allowed.


Do they have to provide the proof if i request it ?

This is the same company that was in the papers for ticketing workers at the hospital during their night shifts etc

Just to add that i have been ticketed before by a private company at another hospital but just ignored it after a reading a thread on moneysavingexpert as the private companies can't legally fine you.

This is the first time its went to a debt collector (Debt recovery plus) and its also went straight to my work rather than to my address.

I wouldn't get overly worried, private parking fines are unenforceable.

These companies will write to you, they will get debt collectors to write to you and call you and possibly even a solicitor acting on their behalf to write to you. This can be annoying but its all just noise, only the Police or a local authority are able to.issue enforceable parking fines.

Explain to them clearly in writing you are refusing to pay the fine and why, they will bother you for a while but eventually they'll give up. This harassment can be a pain in the erse but its all just an attempt to bully cash from you.

Even in the hugely unlikely events you actually got court summons you'd win.

They have to provide evidence of who was driving at the time.

It's a civil matter not criminal and they won't enforce. Your company should ignore it then ask for evidence of who broke the parking contract by parking there at the time.

Don't worry I got one in Gartnaval hospital last year when I was in for an operation!! Ignore the letters they will give up soon enough, it's like getting a ticket for parking in parent and child at 7am at Asda. ****ers!

Don't ever write to them saying you were driving - that's their in as the contract, and they do have one if you use the car park, is with the driver.

Letters from them, debt collectors and their solicitors are more than likely all from the same people, maybe even the same person who used to make the tea until he was promoted to sign computer produced letters with a variety of names :-D
