It's a bit harsh on his opponent from last night, Flavio Cipolla. It was pretty clear last night, when he was getting treatment, that he was struggling with the injury. He really should have pulled out there and then which would have allowed Cipolla to go through and play Raonic in the next round.

It's definitely the right thing to do though.

With the US Open starting in just over 2 weeks' time, he really doesn't want to be taking any risks with his body.

I see now that there is no play at all today until midnight at the earliest.
