Just had a really low flying jet tear over the house in Musselburgh, I've seen the odd jet fly over but not so low before, I take it it'll be on it's way back to Leuchars or something? Still, seems a bit late to be doing low flying exercises and so close to Edinburg Airport, what a noise it made!!
My old boy used to be a delivery driver and he had a white van, when delivering in Fife the jets used to use his van as moving target practice and they'd shoot down and get to within a couple of hundred feet and nash up again, used to scare the bejeezus out of him :greengrin

I'd imagine that if anyone had wanted to bomb porty's oil/poppy/gold fields that it might have already happened prior to this years tattoo-but hey ho, as long as this wifie feels safe then all is well in the world...... Sigh indeed

Living in gracemount, imagine how I felt when I heard the fireworks!!
There were a few disappointed folk lined up along Regent Road last night, me included!
It looked like some Swedish thing, flew so high it was just visible as it whispered across the sky.

I like 'em. Puts you right into the world of an Afghani goatherd.
Was sitting in the cab at the airport the other day when one came roaring overhead, pretty low and jeez what a speed it was doing, obviously been to the tattoo and was heading back to Leuchars.

Comment 105 shows the evening news up for what it is....a sorry excuse for a newspaper.
Must admit I think fast jets are the mutts nuts so seeing the four of them the other day flying so low was a treat....

Brilliant!
Actually, if you've ever had one of these things go over at a couple of hundred feet it's enough to put you off your goat's milk.

Dont recall this happening last year - but then it does seem like a lifetime ago.:greengrin
The jets are still quite low when the hit Dunfermline but so far the wee man (9 months) has only stirred once.

You mean we're spending tax-payers' money providing low-level aerobatic displays for Afghani goat-herds?
Next you'll be telling us we're providing them with firework displays as well.
Shocking!
Puts me in mind of the only time we ever cut short a family holiday - we had been offered the use of a caravan at St Andrew's.
What we weren't told was that (a) it wasn't a very big caravan, and Doddie couldn't move in the bloody thing without banging his head against things; and (b) it was parked about 200 metres downrange of the main runway of Leuchars air base.
Every morning, every evening, every night, Tornadoes in pairs taking off and landing right over our heads with full afterburners going every take-off.
It was cut short the holiday or head for the divorce courts.
Hell must be a bit like that.
Only not so bad.

Oddly enough, no.
After the first couple of take-offs the excitement began to pall somewhat. The noise levels were way above toleration. The only time I remember anything as bad was one summer in Tiree when a flight of four Buccaneers came in off the sea and actually had to lift themselves to get over the sand-dunes at the back of the beach. THEY were almost certainly down to around 100 feet and travelling.
As for the Leuchars boys, it got to the point where I would have welcomed a couple of MiGs to shoot some of the blighters down.
