I didn't see the event you are talking about but don't they do something similar on motorbikes at the X-games? I don't know if it's the exact same but those guys fly through dirt and over big hills too. And some of them pull somersaults and all other sorts of crazy crap!

I watched a TV show a few months ago about the kid / man who blew life into bmx years ago. He was the first guy to attempt, and do, a 20' vertical jump. He hurt himself all the time. Did his own stitches and the like. I'll see if I can find a link.

I have met a few bmx guys (through a friend that is a pro skateboarder) and they are ALL insane. Absolutely mental to do this sport.
