View Full Version : An Extra 82 Fans Per Game

According to this site which has worked out the number of new fans each SPL club needs through the turnstiles to make up for the lack of Rangers' travelling support.

We come out the lowest of all SPL clubs only needing an extra 82 fans per home game to compensate for the loss of Rangers fans, so if accurate we will not miss them at all.

surely with the extra season tickets we have sold this should cover it? or do we still need more fans on top of the extra season tickets that we have sold

As above...this is about travelling support...

Also if Dundee bring 1500 (thats generous) then that 2*2000=4000 @ £28 missing £56000..

Thats 19 home games so £2950 required extra at each @ £22 per head for cat B (missing cons etc) =144 extra adults for us just to cover 2 Rangers games....takes no account of TV sponsorship reductions....

So its pretty wide of the mark for us

Perhaps but 144 extra paying adults is hardly a massive amount more. We certainly have scope to increase the size of our gate, considering it has been going downhill rapidly the last few years.

As for TV money, we now have a new contract. OK, it's down somewhat on before but we surely have the opportunity for the other 11 clubs to change the distribution of the money, perhaps even paying clubs a bit extra whose home games are on TV, which definitely affects the gate.

The one thing that could possibly be down is sponsorship. It depends how much importance sponsors put on us playing Rangers as opposed to playing Dundee twice per season.

I assume this was based upon 1 Rangers game, seeing as we only played them once at ER last season

You are right that 150 more is not a huge target...but remember that is 150 more than last year...and we were down on ST's and lots of Walk-up fans saying they have had enough.

TV deal is £2.7 million down per year at least. Then there is central league sponsorship which could be reduced (people forget that TV + Sponsorship - cost of running league is then whats divided) Yes the distrabution model is wrong. Not so much the % although that could be tweaked, but as you mention there is no recompense for live games that more often than not reduce walk ups (and more worryingly are a big reason sited for not renewing ST's) and after the OF we were most Tv exposed club last season.

Then there is our own club sponsorship which is based on TV exposure and then the trackside / match day advertising that could be affected.

All of this is complicated and made worse by how late in the seson planning its all happened...

Two wins in out first 2 games however and the sunshine will return to Leith :greengrin

The Daily Record even have the gall to say that this is despite the loss of Rangers.. perhaps they could have spun it as BECAUSE of the loss of Rangers.

Hibs only played them once at ER last term so although this would show that we need less fans per game to match last year's total, in effect, we would have had them twice this year and potentially we will only get Celtic once this year, so the figures don't necessarily stack up (although to be fair, on checking last seasons crowd figures, this only accounts for around 3000 fans once or twice a year so it's not exactly disastorous). Add to this the fact that traditionally Dunfermline bring a decent travelling support and Dundee are unlikely to match that, I believe that Hibs may see a slight downturn in attendances this season.

Dunfermline were lucky if they brought 1000 fans for their must win game against us [4 -0]

Why dont we jus aim to finish higher up in the league this year as the higher up you finish the more cash you get from the tv deal. Surely we can do better than 11th.

:agree: lets do both...more fans in the stadium cheer the team on some beter results..greater share of central revenues...
