I tried to get olympic tickets for my daughter, back in the spring, whos big into gymnastics, and was put off by the cost and complexity of getting through the lottery. Pretty shocked, therefore, to see huge banks of empty seats at the mens gymnastics now. According to barry glendinnings tweet this is due to sponsors not shifting their freebie tickets onto people :dunno:

She would have loved to be there, and seeing all these empty seats is very frustrating.

The whole tickets issue has been a farce. There was loads of empty seats last night for the opening ceremony too. Say what you want about the Chinese, there was never a empty seat at any event at the Bejing Olypmics.

Okay, I'll say it. :greengrin

I'll say it too. Leave your seat empty at the opening of those games and it is likely you would have been charged for the bullet - as is the custom - used in the punishment.

The difference between a democracy and not.

Let's hope that doesn't inspire Petrie's next attempt to shift more season tickets.

I see some other people have noticed :greengrin
Now the main item on the bbc news, after being reported extensively in the US.

I pressed the red button through sky, checked all the events on at the moment and most of them had empty seats

Beach Vollyball was half empty.

As well as the empty seats it seems every Londoner has thought of some scheme or other to rip off anyone that has so much as an Olympic logo about their person.

£40 a night for getting a space in someone's garden shed was about the craziest one among the many.

Warnings not to take your car anywhere near anywhere in London; which pubic transport service is on strike today?; of long queues and very long walks; £3 burgers costing a tenner and a better view of the sports from any one of 26 BBC channels.

I'd be surprised if that hasn't put off a large number of folk - many of those offered freebies by the sponsors couldn't afford to go.

Exactly what we should he doing IMO. Bussing in groups of local kids or giving free tickets to themilitary personnel who saved the games in the first place would save the embarassment of empty stadia.

Unfortunately, not really practical. The accepted wisdom at the moment seems to be that these were mainly corporate seats. That was unforeseeable....but, if it is the case, it can still be sorted in the way you suggest.

I'll bet there are very few empty corporate seats for the 100m final.

There was a boy on the radio earlier who got mens 100 metres final seats on the website yesterday. A mere £700.

There are tickets available, if you have the money.

Strange. Especially when they had the good manners to reply to my letter about Zemmama's feet. For the record, he took a size 4 :aok:
