It's that time of year again and as ever, predicting the winner is no easy feat.

The weather forecast for the 4 days of the Championship looks reasonable - dry with gusty winds at times. The course has been set up to suit the straight hitters rather than the slammers and I suspect a lot of safety first tactical tee shots will be in evidence.

My picks are:-

Ricki Fowler (40/1). He finished well last year and proved that he has the type of game that could win him an Open Championship.

Ben Curtis (100/1) A previous winner who is having a great season on the PGA tour.

Justin Rose (33/1) Worth a bet for his consistency alone.

Paul Lawrie (80/1) Another previous winner, he's Scottish, and having his best season for a while. If the wind really does blow then Paul will not be far away although he'll be disappointed with his performance at last weeks Scottish Open.

I'm really looking forward to this year's Open and with blanket coverage on the TV then I'll be going into hibernation for the next few days.

PS Where's the happy golfer smiley?!

I fancy Lee Westwood to win it. 14/1 though, so I'll be backing a few outsiders as well.

I'll have some money on Els ew @ 40/1 and probably a couple more folk, but not sure who yet. Tempted by Choi @ 100/1.

I'm on Justin Rose e/w at 33s

Hunter Mahan e/w at 50s

Jim Furyk e/w at 50s

Ernie Else e/w at 40s and finally

Adam Scott e/w at 40s

I cleaned up well over £1200 at the Masters with a big e/w punt on Bubba so hoping my luck comes through again this time.

Some cracking golf so far.

Ernie chipping in to go to 1 under. Tiger looking very good and Bubba hooking and slicing his way to 2 under.

Tiger and Adam Scott both playing some really good golf. A lot of the others have been steady but unspectacular. Bubba reaching the green with a driver and a 2 iron there was just unbelievable...

Adam Scott cut to 11/2 by William Hill.

Glad I got on at 40s at the moment.

Tony Jacklin was a great golfer but he is one lousy commentator. The monotony of his voice is enough to send anyone to sleep.

The Beeb should bring back Sam Torrance as he was both informative and humorous however I also heard that he fell out with the Beeb as they didn't invite him to the Masters.

It looks like poor weather down there at the moment and Phil Mickleson is even playing with 2 gloves on - what a muckle wus!

The only thing I like about the beebs coverage is 'Ken on the course'.

Jacklin was just so dull to listen to and the less said about Peter Alliss the better.

Els and Scott currently at 1 and 2, got them both £10 e/w at 40s. Fingers crossed it stays like this.

Told you all to stick with me.

Would have been a well spent pound as it looks just now.

Won't grumble too much though.

After three days of betting failures, I managed to get my last online tenner on Els, as he stood over his second on the 18th, and scraped in at 4-1 just before the odds shortened, so ending up about £20 up on the week. Still felt sorry for Scott, though.

Got all my cash back, less a fiver, having bet Luke Donald EW.

Crap otherwise.

I finished up courtesy of a £5 e/w on G-Mac @ 33s to yield £46.25. My other £15 on Rory, Kooch, Dufner and Schwartzel was never tobe seen again.

Guy I used to work beside put his entire Hills account balance on Scott at 1/4 with 4 (I think) holes to go. He says it was £255 but I'm sure it was more.

Got Els up, but Colsaerts was a dissapointment. 5 under for the first round, 7 over the second, think it was 2 over the 3rd day, then finished up with a 5 under on the Sunday. He came 7th and I needed him in the top 6. Taking 12 more strokes on the Friday then the Thursday was a farce.
