Different people have different ideas of what justice should look like (e. g. the debate on capital punishment) but I wonder how many people can look at the John Terry verdict and come to the conclusion that justice had been done.
Football fans are notoriously tribal and a great many Chelsea fans, no doubt, will think that justice has been done, however calling a black opponent "a ******ing black ******" and admitting that you did so, seems like a suicidal thing to do in your defence.
Apparently not.
Stealing a bottle of water can secure you a term in jail, but perpetrating fraud on a scale of trillions leads to legal and political obfuscation and a complacent safety in the knowledge that imprisonment is extremely unlikely.
Is it possible that anyone still believes that all citizens are equal before the law?

No I'm not saying you called me that because you didn't, you merely asked if I thought you had called me that therefore I am not in the least bit offended and you sir are NOT GUILTY.

I have also used the JT defence in a real life situation all be it not in a court of law, had an altercation with someone and called him a few choice words relating to the incident and not his colour. His immediate response what I was being a racist, I cleared it up by explaining that I had called him a lying lowlife thieving useless c*** and not a lowlife thieving useless b**** c*** so how was I being racist? The Police agreed with my version of events too!

I would let you off but I don't want to be accused of being a milky bar button.

I've done the same thing and have done it quite a few times when being accused of saying something I didn't. Not in a racist discussion though.

I had it in a pub a wee while back where someone thought they were called a James blunt. To emphasise the point I said I never called them a James blunt.

They started being a James blunt so then I called them it!

Here is a report on the verdict: http://news.sky.com/story/959809/john-terry-found-not-guilty-of-racist-abuse
The bit that suggests he did is this bit: One of the best paid players in the Premier League, he was accused of using the phrase "f****** black c***" as an insult.

He denied the claims, saying that he was sarcastically repeating a slur that Ferdinand mistakenly thought he had used.
I took that to mean that he did use the said phrase.

I think it's been well publicised, perhaps even before the trial, that he admitted saying it. The video evidence was pretty damning. However, he claimed that he was repeating what AF accused him of having already said, which he hadn't already said and wouldn't have said had AF not accused him of having done so. It's as simple as that.

Is it as simple as that? I've not read that much into what was said in court. Is there video evidence of Anton Ferdinand asking him if he called him that? Or has AF admitted he said that to Terry?
