Got to admit that I have changed my mind on this subject as well.
Though I do still think that signing the likes of McFadden would put a few bums on seats perhaps now is not the time. The team appears to have come together quite well and perhaps a hard working midfielder who can pass the ball and a tricky right or left winger is what we really need.
Dont get me wrong I think James McFadden is a super player who I would be glad to pay money to watch ... but perhaps not the guy to bring in when you are trying to build a team.

I feel we are very close to having a really good team. Would James McFadden on the right side of midfield be the what we need?

Thoughts please!

I dont think so, a big name like him may upset the team spirit we have, tho I do agree right midfield is our weak spot at present!!

We could do with a left sided player so Ciarney can play right midfield which being right footed he would be more suited to. He's played well on the left but defenders will note he cuts inside most of the time.
McFadden would be great upfront with Griffiths but well out with our budget I'd imagine.

Good points! Cairney did cut infield a lot rather than go down the wing, so maybe he his better on the right hand side. Yes - maybe it is more a left sided player we need.

at this stage in the season, he would be no more that a trophy/vanity signing. I can see him going to Harse to pacify the followers of the big team.

Thought Spoon was okay on the ball but his crossing was rubbish. I noticed when we had a free kick on the left in the first half he took it with right foot, useless cross per usual. Stevenson didn't add much when he came on, the usual. I would get in McFadden definitely. That could be a signing that made a good start to the league an enduring one.

Mcfadden would be a perfect addition right now. Something different to play in what is a really well oiled and disiplined team. Listening to Pats interview on the BBC though suggests no money for anymore new signings.

Can't understand folk who say they wouldn't take him. He's a class player, you don't turn down class players if you have the chance of getting them at a reasonable rate of course.
He'd use us to put him in the shop window, he has something to prove and we get a good player and possibly a wee fee at the end of it. Win win really.
If its at all possible, make it happen!

He's hardly played in the past few years though. That's the problem. We can't afford to sign a "name" that might be sitting in the stand more than he's on the pitch.

Agreed.
We look good at the moment, but we don't look great. Having a player like McFadden who has experience at the highest levels of the game could only be a plus point.

Perhaps not.
But a professional player like McFadden will keep in tip top shape, even if he isn't getting much game time.
He'll be training regularly to keep his fitness levels up.

We haven't even seen Tom Taiwo yet and we are still wanting more Midfielders. I'm more than happy with the squad we have

Our squad is still light.
Who knows how long Leigh will be out for and we will struggle next week if he isn't fit.
McFadden is a utility player, he can provide an additional option up front.

I'm a lot less happy than you, with the squad we've got. still a couple of pllayers short for especially midfield. Wetherspoon flatters to deceive, despite getting a regular pick, Lewis/ na, just no ma cup o' tea. they have been there a long time, and dont progress. it's all about opinions though but Mc Fadden, I like.

I'm a bit cheesed off with continual reminder that this fantastic player or that sought after former hero wouldn't sign for a club like Hibs because we couldn't afford them. Strikes me that nobody is willing to cough up a king's ransom for the privilege of taking a risk with these prima donnas and the sooner they take a good hard look at themselves and realistically re-evaluate the inflated value they place on themselves, the better. Let them rot in their self appointed elephant's graveyard.

I like faddy too but he is not right for us at the minute, big time boys we do not need just now . Paddy needs to make his mark on the team this season and its going well so far, maybe a faddy type signing when we are established again in the next season or so.

I don't buy the whole "we can't afford him" nonsense.
He's currently on "no wages". That means he's earning nothing. I'm sure we could offer him a fairly affordable short term deal.
We wouldn't just be paying him a wage, he would have access to all the facilities while here and would be guaranteed first team football for a club thats flying high at the moment.
We'd be helping him out as much as he would be helping us out.

I'd get him in. It could be the diff between an okay season and a very good one.
