Anyone heard about him coming to us?

Thecat23

Wasn't he going to retire? I thought injury finished him. Plus he's 35 so not a player I'd fancy myself.

I'd take him. Good player, bags of experience.

Was playing CH for Hull. What bout him as holding MF player. Bags of experience both EPL and championship. Loads of caps fur ROI. Sauzee roll??

Turns face to sky and clasps hands in prayer...
He's old but he's gold.
Sign him.
He was part of the ace team that took the Republic of Ireland to the World Cup quarter finals back in '02.

He is definitely what we need experience wise.

Can play CH CM LB and LM..... All have been and still are problem positions for us

Great attitude and spoke a lot of sense during the euros

Unless he's an absolute crock, we should be looking to get players like him in.

Almost a positive thread about a rumour for once. We could do with someone with his experience and ability. Even just for one season. I'd be happy if this came about.

Think he would prove a great signing, passing on his experience in the dressing room as much as on the park!

Would give him a one year deal. Experienced head in the middle of the park who would bring on others and importantly be a good influence off the park.

We wouldn't have had a chance one year ago but at 35 he probably won't be inundated with better offers and should be in decent nick judging by the number of appearances at a high level in his thirties.

Zinedine Kilbane could probably do a job which kind of shows up how poor the SPL is...

Sounds like exactly the sort of player we should be looking at however I am sure he will have some other offers. Hopefully he is someone that Pat or Liam knows which may swing things. Not sure whether he was at Tranmere when LOB was there may be a friendship there. Just checked he never played for Tranmere. An offer of a playing contract with possibility of future coaching type role may be exactly what he is looking for at present.

Yes he WAS but age Ie lack of pace caught up with him. Played at CH with Hull.

Would think a player if his calibre would and could do a job fur us... Say at CM??

Done very well to play Premiership for so long based upon ability which highlights his excellent dedication to his profession. Never that keen on him but I have no doubt he'll be a higher quality than we've had.

What's with all these Irishmen being linked with us? :grr:

For goodness sake, we're a Scottish team, we're Hiber ....

OOPS.

(Sorree!) :blushie:

In the last three seasons he's played 84 games for Hull, Huddersfield, and Derby - average 28 games a season? He also played 18 times for the RoI in that period.

He appears to have looked after himself, and he works as a pundit for RTE Sport. (Credit: Wikipedia.)

Sometimes it's a good thing to have an old head in the midfield, and not every player's over the hill at 35 ....

Surprised it took so long for that one to come up.

I'll have a first guess.

Some seriously classy French saucission
Pungent, Yam-deterring Camembert
and to top it all off, a couple of crunchy cornichons, with some fried garlic and onions to make the ladies go weak at the knees.

Best served with a jaunty fortune cookie, which must always proclaim:

"F*** the Hearts"

I got talking to a boy from Coventry at the Stone Roses at the weekend. He was gutted that McPake had come to us.

I asked if they had a couple of decent centre halfs for them to have got rid of him. He found that quite amusing. Seemed to think it was all about not being able to afford him if they couldn't trust the injry situation as they are proper skinto.

He couldn't believe they weren't looking for £500k for him considering what else goes around those leagues. It was just the day he signed so I still thought we'd probably paid £100k for him. Even better we seemed to get him for nowt.

He did have a good laugh at us taking O'Donovan off their hands for six months though! A fair trade off though I think.

Anyhow, I think we could probably still tempt him from his Coventry trial if indeed we are interested at all.

All looks a bit like the Michael Tonge thing though really.

IIRC he played for Sunderland in a pre-season friendly several years ago at ER.
I remember thinking that day that he was the best man on the park.
Don't know if old father time has been good to him though.

I hadnt considered him either but when i saw his name mentioned i thought it was a great call.

Really good player , who i think could do a job. At 35 he's never going to be long term but maybe 1 or 2 seasons ..... could be a great signing for the young guys in the club too

Excellent to be associated with players like him anyway. Hope we get him.
