If you go to the Historical Kits website they have a page covering Hibs strips over the years since 1875, see:
http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Scottish_Football_League/Hibernian/hibernian.htm
but this site seems to only cover 'iconic' away strips of various clubs through history.
Does anyone know if there has been a record kept of all Hibs away kits and in what year was the first away strip used? When did 'third strips' first appear also?
All answers, information and suggested sources of info welcomed. Thanks in advance!

How much better did Hibs tops look before sponsors names had to be put on the front?

Football teams have sold their soul.

I've tried to collate a record of all away strips - I've a good idea from 1980 onwards. I'd love to hear from anyone who has knowledge of change strips from pre 1970 especially specific games when they were worn.

In the late 50s I believe we wore a plain white "away" shirt.

The only other instances I know of us wearing away colours was when we used to go to teams like Dundee Hibernian (later United) or play the likes of Dumbarton Harp the club would borrow Leith Athletics's black and white strips. We certainly wore Leith Athletic's colours when Tannadice was opened in 1909 with a game between Dundee Hibernian and Hibs.

My great grandfather was a gas stoker who lived in Leith and would watch either Leith Athletic or Hibs. He wouldn't watch Hearts on principle.

Hope that helps.

The historical kits website does update away tops reasonably often so hopefully they get round to Hibs, I know they added Celtic quite recently. Maybe worth emailing them the request.

Am I right in thinking Hibs played in all green, sleeves and all, v Sporting Lisbon in the 50s/60s?

That's brilliant - really helpful thanks, I've found little in the newspapers of hibs change colours over the years up until the purple and all green tops of the early 70s.

Historical kits won't be doing away kits - but, if anyone out there has the ability to create the graphics from pictures then please pm me and I'll put a page together.

That's a pretty poor range of colours from Hibs.

Basically one of White, Purple, Yellow or Black.

C'mon Hibs, what about a Red, pale blue, dark blue, orange or something different.

Same old for 40 years (mint excepted).

P&G, sorry been working and not had time to check back to this thread even though I started it. Okay what I am hoping to do is make a web page like the Historical Kits one but for Hibs away tops, to compliment the HK website. I will PM you when I get a chance in the morning. Cheers!

Cheers Andy, I'm gonna start making a master list then sketch up some drawings like the Historical Kits website, then I'll put a link up on here and people can hopefully point out any errors for updating / correcting.

IMHO it looked 'okay' in the publicity shots and clubstore website pictures but actually out on the pitch in the cold light of day I totally agree, it was totally pure boggin.

Any reason why Green and Purple have been common alternate strip colours and is the main colour components of the Hibs tartan, this got me thinking, that maybe that for Hibs the green, from the Irish shamrock represents the clubs Irish heritage and the purple, the colour of the Scottish thistle, represents it's Scottish birthplace?!?

Any thoughts?
