Andy Coulson arrested on suspicion of perjury, in the Tommy Sheridan trial. The chickens come home to roost.

It appears that he has been detained, rather than arrested. More here: http://scotslawthoughts.wordpress.com/2012/05/30/andy-coulson-detained-by-strathclyde-police-a-quick-guide-to-detention/#more-1213

A somewhat ironic turn of phrase in the context of the Sheridan Trial.

I heard Sheridan on the radio news on the way home, sounding convinced that this is day one of the road to his conviction being quashed. As far as I remember there was a lot of evidence reported to support his guilt rather than his conviction mainly relying on Coulson's evidence. The most plausible explanation for me would be that both Sheridan and Coulson committed perjury.

The most damning evidence against Sheridan came from members of his own party. Coulson's guilt would not mean his innocence.

Coulsons now been charged, but on the basis of him lying about not knowing about the surveillance involved in the Sheridan case. It doesnt vindicate Sheridan or cast any doubt on HIS conviction, although he might try to say otherwise over the next few weeks :greengrin

Delighted he's been charged. Hopefully all them connected with News International will face justice for the carnage they have caused over the years.

He's been tainted for some time already, but I reckon he'll tough it out. I think he's odious but he is the PM and it will take more than this to dislodge the grande fromage.

Coulson then Cameron please and then throw in Marie Antoinette Legarde. All in a hole in the ground. Magic.
