Just read this on the BBC website - surprised he lasted as long as he did.

You're not suggesting a politician lied about how long Megrahi had left to live because it was politically expedient to get him out of a UK prison? I'm shocked, shocked.

An innocent man who didn't live to see his name cleared. I hope the truth will come out sooner rather than later.

a couple of posters on here should be quite chuffed, using a dying man to try and gain cheap political points by using the situation to fire off political views against the SNP was crass, they know who they are :agree: i'm a bit open-minded as to whether this guy was guilty or not, but jim swire, who lost his daughter at Lockerbie, was convinced it wasn't Megrahi, he's spent all those years doing his own detective work and i tend to go along with this poor guys thoughts, but if Megrahi has managed to fool everyone, then hell mend him

Me, but the target was all politicans and not only the SNP. The UK government was happy to see him go as well. I stand by the comment. It was a political decision and not something that would have been granted to the likes of Thomas Hamilton.

My own view, based on what I've read and the fact that he lost his first appeal, is that he probably was involved, and on that basis I remain of the opinion that he should have remained in HMP Greenock. Worth remembering that he had a second appeal ongoing at this point, but withdrew it to be allowed to return to Libya.

I think he was involved but had the blame stuck all on him because of high level political decisions at the time not to take things further for whatever reason.

Correct - the UK and US governments wanted a trial, the Libyan government wanted back into the international fold and big oil wanted back into Libya. So it suited everyone for the Libyan government to offer up two people who were involved but could be relied upon to keep quiet.
