Going for a very boring 0-0.

Couldn't care though as long as we have a second string team out to avoid getting any of our main guys injured or suspended in the run up to the big one!

Garry might have asked to play......he's scoring goals, getting fitter. Francomb to get accustomed to left back if Pa doesn't make final. Soares to maintain his fitness due to injuries. And Doherty because he is consistent and offers a threat going forward.

Selection seems fair to me. Would have liked to see a couple of youngsters start, but each player today gets a chance to impress for places on bench too (next week).

Say we sold 21000 tickets for final at an average £25 pound a ticket that would be £525,000
Say 2000 ST at average £350 a ticket that would be £700,000
Attendance was 15,200ish? Take off 7000 ST ticket holders and about 1000 u16s for free? so about 7200 at average 15 pound a ticket would be £108,000
So from tickets we have gained an estimated £1,333,000.

Because some players need to play to maintain their fitness levels and others like to play to gain additional experience. Doherty and Francomb have played about 20 games of senior professional football each. They rested the players that have either played a lot of games (Hanlon) or have a history of niggling injuries (McPake).

Not worried about todays result...we were always going to lose with Stephens, O'Hanlon, Sproule, etc in the same team. I'm happy to accept defeat today although I do think the standard of our subs/reserves team should be alot better.

I would have targeted Gillet today, who is a very shaky left back for them. I noticed this in the 3-2 win last time round.

In what way is Fenlon inexperienced? He's won more cups in the last five years than Hibs have in the last thirty odd.

He's that thick that he's made a career as a football manager. How's your career as a football manager going?

Pat Fenlon is far from 'thick' - he knows a lot more about managing a football team than you do - unless you're Yogi Hughes in disguise, in which case he knows a lot more about managing a football team than you do.

As Marinello says, there's a fine balance between protecting players and maintaining match-fitness, and there are League rules about just how far a manager is allowed to go in playing understrength sides in supposedly meaningless fixtures. People pay to see first-team players, not kids from the u-16s.

We don't know just how bad the injury is - it could well be the sort of knock Doherty will have completely worked off by Tuesday/Wednesday.

But I REALLY would like to continue logging onto this forum over the next week without having to navigate my way through shoals of keyboard prima donnas having hissy fits over every last thing they read in the newspapers/hear on the radio/see on the internet that's going to totally ruin all chance we ever had of maybe, psooibly, just imaginably putting on a decent performance on Saturday next.

Well said Doddie, I am fairly new to these threads but I shake my head in wonder at some of them. Doherty will play next week, not a shadow of a doubt

Thankfully for us a meaningless game.

Maybe meaningless in your eyes, but we could have won by three, overtaken ICT, and put a further £80k in the pot via league placings.......A number of players rested, and gave others a chance to impress PF before next week....

I fully agree with that, is the manager showing his in-experience?. Or is he thick, to risk Sparky and Garry is beyond belief.

Don't think PF is thick, he is actually very articulate.....Just not really the need to have a pop at him is there?

I knew we'd get turned over today, in fact i backed Inverness to win and even predicted 2-0 in the prediction league.

My thinking was we had a team of players not wanting injured, even those who think they might make the bench. Its human nature, add Fenlon resting a few i thought it was a no brainer.

Hopefully they will be nicely rested and ready to kick their erses next week and bring the cup back to Leith.:pray::pray::pray::pray:

Yip number of players rested, but the ones who played would not have given PF much food for thought on squad selection next week.....

:agree:
They are the reason we are 2nd Bottom, without the influx of those players Fenlon brought in, we probably would have gone down imo. The 1st 11 are capable of winning that cup, we are weak after that 11.

I think Paddy knows his team, i think we all do.

Last season I was really pissed off by Hibs bottom 6 displays. We missed out on a fair bit of money by Calderwoods interference and trying players in new positions and ultimately finishing 2 or 3 places behind where we should have. Today though I think we done the right thing, tbh, we were unlikely to beat them by 3 goals even with our best team.

Next week we have one of our biggest games ever. Far more important than what we'd get for an extra place in the league.

Yeah, as Gary says above, we know our fringe players are not really good enough, big job for PF to rebuild our squad
