Coventry's other centre halfs must be immense for them to let Mcpake go on loan. They must be regretting doing that seeing as they are now relegated.

They most certainly aren't. Whoever let him go to us should have his background checked for Hibby roots.

I thought he dealt with it like a total pro. As the presenter said, too many times players talk about how they love the club and then bolt. Mcpake lets his actions do his talking.

On these performances he should be getting Scotland call-ups. I just hope first and foremost he is fit for a fortnight as he was def struggling at the end and you could tell the hamstring was giving him a wee bit of trouble. Thereafter have him signed up as not only is he the best centre half we have had in 10 years at least. The way he reacts you hope the club has started to grow on him.

His pal beside him was excellent as well.

Playing beside McPake has made a massive difference to Hanlon. The test was against Aberdeen when he was back beside O'Hanlon and he looked twice the player he did in the first half of the season.

O'Hanlon was much better too. I honestly think McPake has managed to rub his way of defending/leading from the front on all the defenders at the club.

He was immense tonight and was thoroughly deserving of the Man of the Match award. Utterly dominant in the air, won almost everything on the ground too, and I agree with others saying best centre half we've had since Jones and Sauzee before him. Wins just as much in the air as Jones did but also good with the ball at his feet and when making the tackle.

Once the season is done the board must try to sign him up on a permanent basis.

He's an outstanding leader, drives the team forward, solid as a rock, wins tackles and headers because of his determination and desire to win. Without question our best Centre Half sine Franck

As the OP says - James McPake take a bow ( now tell the Manager to wrap you up in cotton wool until the 19th) you are on the threshold of legendary greatness.

Signing James would be a positive signal of intent by the Board that they recognise that they owe the fans quality investment in the playing side now.

Rather than slavishly adhere to an uncompetitive wage cap, and sign two or three mediocre newcomers, invest the lot in JMcP, which would provide a better return anyway.

I honestly feel like sending an email to the club to sign this guy up quickly as I fear a lot of other clubs are going to pounce on him. Basically the guy has the potential to become a Hibernian legend.

James McPake, Hibs defender on loan from Coventry"Great relief for the club to remain in the SPL. A club of this size wouldn't survive in Division One. Now we can look forward to the Scottish Cup final.
"(Whether I stay) is up to Hibs and Coventry. We can now talk about the cup final because we've been dodging questions about it.

To be fair to RP he will be aware of the role JM has played in keeping us up and I assume he will be trying his best to sign him.

If we lose him it will be to a team with more money, although with Rangers in the gutter it makes it slightly less likely that it'll be another Scottish team. I reckon Hibs could probably stretch to offer him up to 5k a week, but if he is offered 10 elsewhere then we could hardly blame him for leaving could we?

I hope he stays. He will almost certainly read Hibs.net and will be aware of how much we want him to stay, and hopefully after he lefts the SC in 2 weeks he'll realise that Hibs is the club for him :-) :flag:

Your figures i would say are way out. As hibs could never pay £5k per week. £2-3k maybe. Although i agree with the point intended. A 3 year deal, putting him on par with our highest earner or top of our wage budget. Might be enough. I certainly hope so.

SPL average weekly wage in 2010/11

Celtic 20,893
Rangers 16,111
Hearts 6,435
Hibs 3,387
Aberdeen 3,062
Dundee Utd 2,563
Killie 2,452
Motherwell 2,365
St. Mirren 2,086
St. Johnstone 1,999

If we were paying an average of nearly £3.5k last season then I would suggest it is you who has your figures way out.
