View Full Version : Question Trump at Holyrood

Did anyone, like myself, watch D Trumpet's evidence at the Holyrood Committee this morning??

The big media fallout has been that he (The Donald) was 'lured' by J McConnell and A Salmond to undertake the golf course development!!:agree:

When asked about what evidence he had about windfarms and the effect of windfarms offshore, he replied:

I AM THE EVIDENCE!!!

Gross arrogance or what??

And here's a sub-theme:

The Convenor of this Committee is one Murdo Fraser, he being an RFC Debenture holder.

He closed the session by asking D Trumpet if he had ever thought of investing in RFC!!

Complete abuse of power - should be exited soonest - but nae chance that will happen!

Considering Salmond seems to have been willing to do anything he could to smooth the way for Murdoch's purchase of Sky, I can quite believe that he would tell Trump anything to get him onside.

Politicians - slimy *******s, the lot of them.

Run this past me: wind farms, holidays - has he seen the weather today? I worry about Wiggy, I really do.

Too true. To a man and woman, they are all at it.

To a political party, it's a sorry pantomime of "we wouldn't have done that/you shouldn't have done this", yet they'd probably all do the same.

I would say we deserve better, but a majority of us simply don't.

It's a perfect example of a spoilt child. I gave you this, so you must give me back in return.

How dare he try and impose his opinions on our country, he can take his golf course and ram it right up his arse.:cb

I like The Donald.....mainly because he seems somewhat eccentric and annoys so many other people! :greengrin

He at least speaks his mind as he sees it, might not be pretty and a lot of people find it offensive and I don't always agree with him (I don't think the wind farm will make any difference to his gold course for example) but you can't accuse him of not putting his cards on the table.

Trump was never going to contribute anything to the Committee. Inviting him was just an ego-stroke in attempt to placate him for whatever reason.

With regard to the bit quoted above, did you not defencd Salmond when we did something similar with Hearts during his offical trip to Qatar (or somewhere similar)?

Can we not stick the wind farm somewhere else? If Trump is creating jobs I don't think we should be standing in his way.

With respect, there's a million miles of difference between the two situations.

It is an entirely different thing for an MSP (Fraser) on official formal parliamentary business, to make a plea to a witness to help relieve his own personal financial position.

Completely unacceptable - he should be exited forthwith!:agree:

What was Salmond on when he did it? Holiday?

That's one big deflect shield you've got there, Mr Beefster.

Let's be clear about this - it's about personal financial gain/pain.

Fraser is a self-publicist for his ownership of RFC Debentures. He raised this matter at FMQ's a few weeks ago.

Now he abuses his position on formal Parliamentary business, within the privilege of Parliament, to an invited witness (D. Trumpet), and petitions for that witness's involvement to rescue his own financial predicament.

Fraser should be exited.

I have no love for Fraser and his party but I watched what you were describing and it was obviously an attempt at a joke (albeit a very weak one).

I think you're diminishing your credibility by trying to turn it into something it's not. You're better than that, or at least I hope you are.

Obviously, at this time you would be wanting to shift focus away from the real current story in Scottish politics - Salmond and his sleazy attempts to win favour with Rupert Murdoch.

I think a lot of people would have hoped that our supposed leader would be better than that. Sadly it appears not.

Er, no it wasn't!

Fraser has form on this.

He made virtually the same remark at First Minister's Questions about 4 or 5 weeks ago so his position was well established!

But that was only a bad thing when Labour did it. Now that Salmond is toadying up to the owner of the Sun it's a good thing. Apparently. (Ancient will keep us right, hopefully with some more hilarious puns for names. I remember him deriding the Sun during the election for being the house paper of Labour. A few days later they came out for Salmond.:greengrin)

Er, no it wasn't!

Er, yes it was. He even got a round of laughter from the audience, I didn't think he had it in him, to be honest.

Just getting back to the bit about Alex Salmond and sleaze though -

Am I right in saying he's the only leader who has invited Rupert Murdoch to his official residence since the Milly Dowler revelations?

I wouldn't be so sure. Murdo Fraser actually launched a bill in Holyrood a few years ago congratulating Rangers on reaching 50 league titles. That's not having a wee laugh, that's wasting time, money and making a mockery of the political system he was elected to uphold.

Steady on. It wouldn't have been a bill, they're used to get legislation on the statute book and I don't think anyone was going that far!

It would have been a motion, and MSPs submit them all the time on every subject.

In fact I seem to recall a SNP MSP put one forward congratulating Ross County on putting us out of the Scottish Cup.

What were you saying about time, money and a mockery of the political system? :greengrin

You must have missed the other part of my post.

I was asking whether Alex Salmond was the only leader who saw fit to host Rupert Murdoch at his official residence since it came out that Murdoch's staff had hacked a murdered girl's phone.

You're flapping around in an empty dark cupboard, and doing well at ignoring the key points.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Holyrood procedures.

On the other hand, it has everything to do with an RFC supporter, who to happens to be an MSP, about to lose his investment in RFC and who abused his position as a convenor of a Holyrood committee to make that point!

Story. Over.:greengrin

No flapping on my part. Everyone who saw it or heard it could see it was a joke.

What isn't a joke is Alex Salmond bringing shame to the office of First Minister by appearing to be the only leader to invite Murdoch into his official residence since we found out about Milly Dowler etc

And Salmond's sleazing up to Murdoch is a story that definitely isn't over  :greengrin

Salmond cosies up to anyone he thinks will help him and it's vile and boke worthy. Other examples include shady meeting with Donald Trump and cosying up to the Chinese despite their disgusting human rights violations (after normal had told them to get knotted), Don't assume from my username I'm a fan of Salmond, he's an odious balloon.
In the interests of parity, Foulkes and Clegg are balloons too.

No deflect shield from me. I think it was Beefster who ppinted out that all politicians are the same. I tend to agree so bringing Salmonds creeping up to Murdoch is fair game to be brought in to the debate. During the election you were revelling in pouring ridicule on Labour for being very cosy with Murdoch but are now strangely silent when it comes to Salmond. If you are going to be consistent wouldn't you now condemn Salmond for the same thing? Or is he beyond criticism in your eyes just because he supports Independence?

Trump is a greedy, pompous, self-serving prick, like Murdoch. Any politicians who cosy up to that spoiled ******** are not worthy of office - i.e.: all of them.
