View Full Version : What if Mark Brown Gets Injured?

The Voice Of Reason

Well, that would mean that Paul Grant would have to play in goals in the clubs biggest game EVER !

I presume he is a good keeper but imagine if his first game was the cup final ! :worried:

Surely Paddy Boy needs to play him in one of our remaining games prior to the cup final to give him a bit of first team experience ?

Thoughts ?

If that happened we'd probably be able to apply for special dispensation and get a keeper in on loan?

Good shout - like you though, I am not sure if we would actually be able to do that or not ?

Falkirk Hibbee may be able to confirm ?

If we're safe from relegation I'd certainly give him at least a half in our last game v ICT. Dunfermline signed the Spanish goalie, but not sure if there was a deadline to that or not.

If we get the chance then the young lad should be given the opportunity in the starting line up as soon as possible as the experience could be invaluable if we did happen to need him in the final.

Brown needs to get some game-time with the defence so they know exactly what's what.

Agreed - Brown himself needs game time. :agree: A tricky situation.

I just hope he does not get injured between now and 19th May - it would be typical of our luck if he did :bitchy:

Remember Sauzee got injured the week before the SC Cup Final against Celtic - I couldn't believe that McLeish actually played him to be fair......and I said so before the game - I was raging when the french god got injured just before the end of the bloody game ! :grr:

Brown has to play every game now until the final IMO, so what if we give Grant 90 minutes prior to the final, it wont make the slightest bit of difference if he was called to play in the final itself. He would still be a young inexperienced keeper thrown into the biggest game of his career so far. You could go on and on Griffiths, McPake, GOC etc etc what would we do without them!

I would imagine that PF and his team are already making some provision for that slim possibility.

They will be assessing the GK candidates available to bring in on an emergency loan basis in the unlikely event that that set of circumstances should arise.

Fear not.

Panic ? No.

A tad worried and worthy of discussing on a message board ? Yes.

Im sure PF has a few tricks up his little sleeves, provided the defence do their job effectively our keeper wont need to do to much!

I imagine that we would get special dispensation to sign a keeper if Brown did get injured. We could though sign a keeper now if he was out of contract and had been since the transfer window. Of course he would likely be lacking match practice, but if PF thought it was worth it I am sure he would. Somewhere in this world is an out of contract goalie who wants a winners medal .... :)

Pretty sure rules allow another goalie to be signed and if that is the case I`d imagine it`d be even if Brown is fit ( rules wouldn`t mean much if Brown got injured at Inverness or in training after and we needed 2 new goalies ) . Not quite sure how this is controlled though - what would happen if Stack suddenly regained fitness for example and we`d signed a new goalie ? Our goalie on loan to East Stirling seems to be getting a lot of games and hopefully will go on to win a lot of medals with Hibs so will never have to regret playing for Shire in early round so not getting medal this year . Emergency goalies ? Is Colgan still fit enough to be sub in final ? Irish manager and goalie like in 1902 would be tremendous ?

Kello was under contract at the end of the transfer window so he wouldn't be allowed unless of course we did get special dispensation

Can we not just stick to positive threads? We need confidence to come over from the fans to the players so we definitely don't need to be cacking our pants before a ball is even kicked :agree:

Wrong. You can't sign anyone without dispensation after March 31st, the (old) transfer deadline. That's why there was a small flurry of activity then (Dunfermline signing that Spanish goalie, Saints signing Riordan).

You may be joking, but with Mark our only senior keeper, that's just the sort of thing Pat needs to think of (I'm sure he already has). If it were the other way around and I were the Hibs manager I think I would be telling my big guys to lean on their keeper early on - remember the Hamilton game last season and McLaughlin's challenge on Stack that put him out for weeks? How often do you see someone sent off for barging in the penalty area?

On the other hand, Pat knows young Grant a lot better than we do ....

May'be we should get in touch with Budgie again. Not to play, but to see if he knows any other goalies like the one at Wigan.

Sure we would get dispensation to get a keeper on loan. As far as I am aware the rules for loan keepers are a bit more relaxed coz its a specialist position.

Would be willing to bet half the keepers in the EPL would be willing to spend a couple of weeks at ER just to play in this one :greengrin

It is not "panicking"..........it is a common sense discussion on a message board about something that if it happened would cause us a major headache in the run up to our most important game ever !

You are right though, best not to talk about it.................:aok:

Good. A last minute scenario at Inverness needing a point to stay up, their forward going round Mark Brown who could bring him down outside the box and take a red card but miss the cup final.... Now there's a good poll question :greengrin
