I don't sit down and properly watch a game very often but I reckon I'll do it tonight.

Can they both lose? :greengrin

It's true. Any club wanting to be considered great has to have won the European Cup before they can be considered. Chelsea, Rangers and the like aren't in that bracket. The only truly great clubs in British football are Liverpool and Manchester United. Celtic possibly.

What about Notts Forest? Their back to back cups make them a real fly in the ointment.

Had a fantastic team for a short while under a genius manager, but not a great club over the piece. Only been English champions once. To be in the great category takes long term achievement at home and abroad.

Liverpool, Man United, Celtic, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Ajax. Possibly one or two others, but the greats must be an exclusive set by definition.

Drogba is a complete embarrassment, spent most of the first half throwing himself to the ground and feigning injury as per usual!

Yes, he got his goal and fair play to him but his usual play acting is just plain cheating and it really is cringeworthy to watch at times!

C'mon Barca, get into these plastic jokers!

But it's still 1-0 to Chelsea.

If Celtic's one European Cup win + lots of domestic titles qualifies them as 'great', then why aren't Porto or Steaua Bucharest in your list? Or even Marseille or Feyenoord?

Credit to Chelsea - it's not the most pleasing style of football for the spectator, but they did exactly what they needed to tonight and got the result.

Some of the hystrionics were laughable though - nothing wrong with the physical aspect which Chelsea bring, but Drogba is disgraceful.

There's very little other way to approach playing Barcelona really - if you try and go toe to toe with them, they'll destroy you, so stifling them and hitting them on the break is the most successful tactic and they deployed it well tonight.

I fully expect they'll do the same in Spain next week and if they defend as well, they'll have a good chance to go through.

Totally agree, but Chelsea got their game plan spot on tonight, as you must against this Barcelona team. I can't see them hanging on.

Fair question. It's margins when it comes to clubs like Celtic. They aren't nailed on in the great club bracket and others could also argue their case. Scotland's only possible chance but.

Was their game plan to lose 4, 5 or 6-1? As that would have been a fair reflection of the play. Imo they just got very, very lucky. They could defo go through though - if they get very, very lucky a second time.

Indeed! Learn your history Hibernia&Alba

Which British club won the European Cup twice on the spin and pretty much every other major honour in domestic / world football with a team full of carpenters, non-league players and the like.

Not to mention the REAL John Robertson.
P.S. It's Nottingham Forest & Notts County. Real bone of contention that with us Notts folk!

How does it go down with Nottm folk?

Stein's celtic were a great side, no doubt about it.

Barca had 25 shots to Chelseas 4, with 15 on target. Also had 72% possession. Football is ridiculous sometimes.

Oh, and the 'greatness' debate. If you win the European Cup ONCE, you are a 'great' side.

I was more questioning the exclusion of other clubs than the inclusion of Celtic.
