I'm after some advice from anyone who has cancelled before or knows the way these contracts work.

I'm a member of greens at chesser have been for 4/5months paying £50 each month now I enjoy the gym and don't have a problem with greens it's a nice place but pure gym are opening a 24hr place near stenhouse (£17p/m) and I can't justify an extra £33 for greens when that's on offer (recession is on don't u know)

Is there a way for me to cancel my membership without a huge cancelation fee or threatening letters of court action etc or am I just going to have grin and bear it till the year is up?

Any help would be great.

Have you still got your agreement. Check out exactly what you signed up for and howuch notice you need to give. Its easy to assume its a year but our gym is a 30 day rolling contract with 30 days notice.

I don't think I have my agreement but I'm near certain I signed for a year and they require a months notice.

My freind cancelled last year due to redundancy and had to give in his p60 as proof of loosing his job because he was still in his years contract so I'm thinking I signed the same agreement

You could be goosed then. Maybe worth telling them you will be leaving for a better deal ASAP, you never know they might offer you a reduction. Probs not but can't hurt.

hiya mate,

I used to be a member of greens and like you found it a good place but a bit costly.

It was around 2years ago that i cancelled and at that time it was
**one months notice as long as you had been there a year**

Speak to one of the recepitionists whom i found helpful

good luck

I wish a gym would open near us for £17pm. Ours is £30 and its not a great gym in the first place! Handy though unfortunately.

Start being rude to the staff, refusing to wipe sweat off the machines, visibly letching at the exercising ladies and leaving turds in strange places (you'll need a little cocktail flag with your name on it for identification purposes). They'll have cancelled your membership by the end of next week.

I take no responsibility for the police getting involved, mind you.

I was going so well until u mentioned the police, I just want extra money in my pocket if a jail sentence is avoidable I'd rather take that option failing that I may follow through (excuse the pun) with ur plan

Maybe theyl be coming to you soon, pure have gyms at ocean terminal, lauriston place and now opening one my way, I think
It's cheap as it won't have a big staff with it being 24hrs.
Don't know why I took greens on if I'm honest it was always going to be a struggle paying that amount monthly....poor decision making

Wow - cheers for the spot John - didn't realise one was set to open in Dundee and I can't think of where it's going to be (new Olympia maybe).

Excellent!

Only problem with the PureGyms is that they are absolutely mobbed at the times people want to go to the gym.

I go about 6.30/7 in the morning and its busy, if I'm off I go mid afternoon, mobbed with students, go in the evening, mobbed with everyone. Waiting on.equipment, especially in the free weights area is a bit of a nightmare.

I've started going just after midnight when I.come off backs shifts and its usually the only time I've found it reasonably quiet.

i'm a member at both Edinburgh Pure Gyms and depending on when you go it can be a nightmare..... i usually go before work if i can drag myself up in time so that you get full access to all areas without having to wait for people to finish.

still, for £17pm you cant really grumble.
