One of the biggest events ever for the real Edinburgh people is about to happen. Do you think you can mark this by putting the same effort into getting the city set up as you do for events that you fix up for tourists?

You know the type of thing, decorating the streets, setting aside public areas to watch the match, big screen tellies.

Just a thought likes, we only live here.

Great idea, doubt they'll do it though, like you said everything they usually go out of their way to do is for tourists

Is this because we can all drink and watch the game together in a friendly family atmosphere and cause no trouble?

Would be great but would never happen

Look at it their way, it's about damage limitation.

Give them Saughton Park. Give us Leith Links, and Festival Square for the neutrals. Let's face it, there's going to be bother anyway. Why not intercept it and do everything they can to make it a celebration of life in the capital.

Keeping us vermin in controlled zones will also protect their precious tourist trade. Anybody that steps out of line in the city centre gets hammered. Otherwise zone off the place - they do it at Hogmanay.

I'm typing this slowly as I know the council aren't too bright.

There's no chance unfortunately.

Football supporters are guilty until proven innocent every time.

Wouldn't surprise me if they tried to stop our open top bus parade on the Sunday as well.

Going by our dealings with Edinburgh City Council in the past they will probably fly the Yam flag over the city chambers for the next 5 weeks and paint the castle maroon & white.

Totally agree Bovril, they will definitely go out of their way to make Hearts fans have a glorious and vociferous welcome should they win it, but us? Don't hold your breath.

Spot on. Don't rely on this council to do anything impartial. We know who the majority of those wasters will be willing on...

The council have a long history of favouring the Yams - it aint gonna change anytime soon. They couldn't even fly our flag the right way up when they (reluctantly) gave us a civic reception after winning the league cup in '07.

A big screen at Easter Road is an excellent idea, and one at the PBS to keep them away from decent folk.

Just tell Petrie there is money to be made - £10/adult, £5 for concessions and he'll pay for the screen himself :greengrin

Just got this reply to an enquiry I made about the Final:

Thank you for your enquiry about planned coverage of the upcoming Hearts
v Hibernian Scottish Cup Final. As you say this is a historic event and
the Council will be looking closely at what we can do to celebrate this
occasion.

Unfortunately the Council are not in a position to organise fan parks
for this event due to financial and logistical constraints.

You may be interested in the motions below which were approved at The
City of Edinburgh Council meeting on Thursday, 26 April:

By Councillor Wilson - Scottish Cup Final
"Council notes
*the success of both Hibernian and Hearts Football clubs in reaching the
Scottish Cup final to face each other for the first time since 1896
*that the only time the final has been held outside Glasgow was in 1896
when both clubs last met in the final of the Scottish Cup.

Council therefore instructs the Chief Executive to work with officers
and representatives of both clubs to seek a meeting with the SFA with a
view to holding the Scottish Cup final at Murrayfield."

And

By Councillor Dawe and Councillor Cardownie - Scottish Cup Final 2012

"Council congratulates Edinburgh's two senior football clubs, Heart of
Midlothian and Hibernian, on reaching the final of the Scottish Cup.
Council recognises that this is the first time in over a century that
the Capital's senior sides will meet in the final of the national
football cup competition.

Council agrees that arrangements should be progressed for a civic
reception to recognise the achievement of whichever club emerges
victorious.

Council also instructs that work be progressed with relevant partners to
identify the best open-top bus route for both potential outcomes."

Thank you for taking the time to contact the Council with your enquiry.

Brilliant, so one idea that never got off the ground (rightly) and the other that takes place every time one of us get to the final? Great stuff, forward-thinking guys these council gadges.

Didn't appear to be any financial constraints on the report regarding Hearts proposed new stadium.

There are many people that I'd love to give a big GIRFUY to when Hibs win, but Edinburgh Council are right up near the top of the list:agree:

God post. There's another cup final on the 19th down in Munich and they are arranging for a public viewing with 65000 people in the old Olympia Stadium - not far from the new Allianz Arena which is holding the actual final.

Apparently it's only 5 euros entrance fee, and there will be beer, bratwurst and bretzels for one and all.

Taking you up on your point - the City Fathers could maybe have arranged say for, e.g. Murrayfield to have public screens and then had a "big party" - or the two Edinburgh clubs could have tried to arrange something for those fans who can't get to the final. It would have been a great chance to show Glasgow and Scotland how football clubs and a major city can deal with a special footballing occasion...missed opportunity?

It'll fast become a missed opportuinity, but keep the faith that something like what you suggest will actually happen, it may just do so

Any indication on if there might be a screening at ER or the like?

Had Edinburgh got to the final in the rugby you can guarantee the council would have bent over backwards to organise something money wouldn't have mattered
