Scotsman (Sport): Whitehill and Spartans cruise into semi-finals

EAST OF SCOTLAND: Whitehill Welfare are through to the semi-finals of the East of Scotland FA King Cup after beating ten-man Vale of Leithen 3-0 with goals from Aaron Somerville (two) and Jim Young. Vale had Ricky Miller sent off in the first half for a deliberate handball on the goal-line. Spartans also clinched their last-four spot with a 6-0 win at Gala Fairydean. Keith McLeod (three), Dean Hoskins, Omar Kader and Sean Wringe scored the goals. Stirling University won 5-0 at Civil Service Strollers, with a hat-trick from Chris Geddes and goals from Paul Sludden and Blair McWhirter. Leith Athletic completed the semi-final line-up when Jack Combe, Willie Bremner and Lewis Cairns netted in their 3-2 win at Coldstream.
