Hibernians (Malta) looking to establish links with us. Seems like a great idea to me.

Sounds like a jolly to me! Would Malta be the place we'd start to look for young talent if they didn't share a name? :greengrin

Like the sound of a potential friendly against them - have we ever played them before?

My uncle told me about this last year cos he knows people on their side. We went to the supporters club and they had a lot of our Hibs stuff. Their ground caretaker said it is his dream for them to play us. :agree:

I remembered getting a little excited when we were rumoured to be linking up with Chelsea, not so much this time.

I went to that stadium for a Champions League qualifier when I was over on holiday in 1999. Valletta vs Barry Town!

Nice old fashioned atmosphere - metal railings, folk setting off fireworks from the stand... and proper celebrations in the streets after the win. :agree:

No they wear black and white something like a Newcastle Utd strip.
My mate works in Malta and thats the team he goes to see (wearing a Hibs scarf)
They humped Mqabbi 6-1 at the weekend.

A visit to the pub where the legend Ollie Reed died would be a must! ("The Pub", English boozer?)

having been over there in 2009 playing football and watching valletta play i must say the atmosphere was outstanding, i do have some mobile videos that i will try to post. the training complex at the millenium stadium (the national ground) there is also not to bad, with there grass imported from scotland aswell. The level isnt that good but they do have a few lads from brazil and the likes playing over there who light up the matches

Sad booger that I am I recently read the history of Hibernians and was mega disappointed to learn that no-one really knows why the club chose to name itself after ours. A few theories offered but nothing definitive

I recall hearing that they were something to do with HMS Hibernian - no mileage in that, I take it John?

That place is a massive dissapointment. Tiny bar with only about half a dozen seats and when you go upstairs to the bogs it is like a vandalised pigeon loft. I was in Valletta the day after Valetta had won the league, and there was a huge parade of fans and lorries and floats. One float, done up like a galleon was flying an enormous flag that said ****** THE HIBS!!! in massive letters. Me no likey that.
