OK, I was a bit drunk at the time, but. I was speaking to a guy the other night who had been at a meeting with council representatives, I think the gist of what he was telling me is that the council are going to require registrations by anyone who is thinking of playing or performing in public.

Is this right?

Not been decided yet, FR. There's a meeting on Friday.

As I understand it, it's venues that have to have a licence, even for free shows, not the performers.

Story is in The Scotsman. Check out their site.

What a piece of nonsense. Apart from issues about freedom of speech - includes what you sing - I can't even see why they are poking there nose in here. Where has there been a problem? Looks like the council looking at the wrong areas again.

Where can I get more details, this is one to lobby on.

What a farce. I play regularly in Edinburgh and the Lothians in a function band as a part time social job that I love and gives me a bit extra cash. It's the same for the rest of the guys. We just want to be able to turn up and play, this is a piece of nonsense.

It gives them the chance to collect another indirect tax - and in the odd case possibly collect some back handers.

There's a big gap in their pauchle what with the compulsory repair thing getting revealed and Holyrood's beady eye on the trams. They've got to try and claw some of their slush back.

And they say kids are anti social these days? What a bunch of money grabbin' Shilocks.
If they pass this piece of nonsense, let's boycott the new year's celebrations and have Princes Street empty when the zillion pounds worth of fireworks go off.

Where's Guy Fawkes when you need him .... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
