View Full Version : Anybody else find themselves checking results of other teams in green?

Is it just me?

Celtc excluded, I always look for results of other teams in green. I like to see Plymouth Argyle and Yeovil Town getting a result. St Etienne in France, Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg in Germany, Real Betis in Spain. Always feel a touch of frustration when they have lost, for some reason. Very petty, but I always check their results.

Sometimes check on Seattle sounders but other than that more into teams where I have visited or my dad played for.

i often find it surprising how few top teams in britain actually wear green...given that it is one of the primary colours you would think that more teams would have adopted it as their team colour....however, i think it is the most popular team colour in africa and it seems to be used a lot more on the continent and ireland than it is here.

Pretty much every other team who play in green in the leagues/sports I'm interested in, I want them to lose, though coincidentally rather than a deliberate "choice".

New York Jets, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Celtic, Mexico, Republic of Ireland...down with the lot of them! :greengrin

γαμώτο Pana! I know they play in green but Olympiacos all the way! Scunner they play in red and white.

I can't say I really look out for any teams because they play in green. Sounders are my American team but that's more because they're from Seattle than because they play in lime green.

Fulham, my English team, had a very dark green away kit last year that was pretty boaking. And my final preferred team, Energie, also play in red and white.

I think Racing Santander play in green and white too!

Hoping to go there some time this Spring/Summer (that part of Northern Spain anyway - Gijon too.)

I have attended a match at Real Betis when I was in Seville a few years back. Briilliant atmosphere, and a win for the greens too! :greengrin

They do but there's no Irish connection (I've wondered about this before). As far as I recall, the crest and colour was chosen in the late 1910s by someone in their Athletics department because it reminded him of his former team. It's something like that anyway, I'll look it up properly later.

No, I do tend to have a quick look at a horses form if the jockeys colours are green with white sleeves, wouldnae back a horse just down to the colours though.

Red Star 93. I was a season ticket holder when I lived in Paris in the mid 90s. They've dropped a few divisions since then though. But are now on the way back up and are currently in the National, which is two steps below the likes of Lyon and PSG.

Real Betis because I've been to a couple of games.

Always quite liked Werder Bremen too.

Used to quite like Yeovil too because of their strips and cup exploits but that went out the window.when they started wearing manky hoops on a regular basis.

I am sure that Plymouth registered him as a player when he was in his late 80's. Don't want to get too highbrow on this site, but his speech against censorship of newspapers during WW2 is awe inspiring.

Aye they did, for his 90th birthday. I know the speech you mean: "we have no further demands....." etc. Superb.

They would have been nicer without the different shade of green on each half. Still, good design.

Yeah my favourite team in each country tends to be whoever is in green. Failing that there is always some kind of Hibs link. I still look out for Anderlecht for example (they wear old Hibs away strips so that's ok!)

At the same time I always want any team even resembling maroon to get beat. Not just football either, if a snooker player is wearing even a dark red shirt then he is clearly a jambo who must lose.

Very good point. Stenhousemuir and Northampton Town are totally off limits, and teams like Villa and West Ham make me uncomfortable, too :greengrin

What? The KKK do not wear maroon or blue. They traditionally wear white.

Also, Alabama does not wear maroon. They wear crimson, which is a shade of red.

Oh, they burn crosses in just the same way as happens at Tynie and Ibroke. Makes no difference if they do so in their away strip

My alma mater's main colour is maroon so I have all kinds of maroon clothes. I have this really nice maroon wool hat from the bookstore that I have worn to Hibs games a couple times by mistake. Luckily I have caught myself prior to getting to the stadium.

The hat is from Vermont Originals who I highly recommend if you are looking for a nice hat.

Would you be willing to debate the difference with your Hibs mates? It's the wrong side of red. That's all maroon to me!

Appreciate it's not a kick in the arse off maroon, but it's still different.

It's not like me to pass up a chance to put the boot into Alabama and we play them in the opener of the upcoming 2012/13 NCAA season.

Leigh rugby and Bolton have both had maroon away strips in recent years which was a bit of a strange experience to be cheering on a team in maroon. Needless to say I didn't buy either shirt though.
