If the yams and the mini yams go down the pan, would we then be the senior club team in the SPL?

Killie - 1869

They also played in the first Scottish Cup (1873/74), so there's no real argument in terms of active playing as opposed to organising.

Amazingly, when they claim to have 'formed' (see amoebas and other single cell species), it is clear that -
They played in blue
Called themselves 'St Andrews'
Ran about a bit in the Meadows

Nah the reborn Huns are to be known as Rangers 1690 FC

This is true

The year 1984 came about many years later when one of the original players was asked when they were formed. He quoted 84 although couldn't be sure. The cynic would question if 84 was stated as a '1 up' over hibs. It is known though that a hearts of Midlothian club (not football club) played other sports before this time and may have went on to form the football club.

I also think that hearts first recorded match is documented after hibs first recorded match. (I'll check this)

I've got loads of scanned newspaper cutting on the early stuff (mostly hibs stuff) I should really put up on here one day.

Interesting and..they merged with a club called Hanover.pretty sure on that. also, they first had their meetings and gatherings during or after dance school, which was held in the "oddfellows" building. opposite Sandy Bell's boozer. now an Irish bar , in Forrest road. oh btw, washed the 2 different club shirts together, hence that sheeity maroon

Firstly its 1874 not 84

Was our first proper game not against HEARTS? That would imply that they were around at least at the same time as Hibs forming? Unless its was St Andrews and subsequently described as Hearts.

Not really an important point anyway. We have a better histiory:flag:

1984? So they went from formation to double-winning glory in just two seasons? Something's not right here...

I don't see how one particular club can claim to be the oldest. They must have had someone to play against surely?

Also I believe their first recorded game was October 1875

Hibs were officially founded in August 1875
Although the first recorded match was Christmas day v hearts that year

Sat down at my desk, grudgingly prepared to do some work, bit grumpy, then I read this ... something strikingly logical about it - brilliant!:greengrin
