I saw her in Glasgow around 1985/6, just after her first album came out. She could only have been around 22 years old then, and although she didn't have a great stage presence or much chat between songs, when she sang she absolutely belted them out. Often imitated but never bettered, so sad to see how her story has ended.

Brown was discovered face down and unresponsive in a bathtub on 31 January and placed in a medically induced coma. She never regained consciousness.
She was moved to a hospice in the city of Duluth, Georgia, a month ago after her condition deteriorated.
