As someone who used to have very strong political views, I'm finding more and more, that people who espouse strong politics, be it left, right or centre, tend to be ham shankers.

I think the world is a complex place and isn't completely understood in terms of the prevalent political philosophies, but in their battle for ascendancy, most creeds have to pretend it is, so politics has become a bit like religion - a strange attestation of faith despite all evidence to the contrary.

I cringe when I hear the smug platitudes of the right and left and centre, delivered with such certainty. I wish they would just admit that they are as clueless as the rest of us.

Certainly some truth in the statement from the article, in reference to the study's findings, "it also claimed that stupid people hold rightwing views in order to feel 'safe'." Probably as true for extreme left views.

I know what you mean, and I agree, but the article in question pokes fun at some people's online silliness without bringing political ideas and preaching counter arguments into it. It's about how ludicrous they are being and the irony that it's all happening in a well known right wing newspaper website. I don't think he's being leftie at all, just calling it as he sees it.
