Munich by train

Me and a few mates are going out to Munich mid july to see a friend who is living there just now. Going for 5 days, but for the first 2 days/nights, we're wanting to go to another decent city then train it to munich, just to mix it up. Anyone recommend cheap flights/trains/cities/airlines/anything really that starts with the word cheap to save us some cash!?

Try Cologne, fly to Charleroi and get the train to Cologne.

Cannae post links on my phone, Easyjet used to fly EDI - COL, but Im sure the route was cancelled. Germanwings may still get you to Cologne from Scotland.
