£12bn could be the final cost to the tax payer for London's facelift. Will Scotland see any benefit from the Olympics?

Teams using Scottish facilities for training?
Increased accommodation and related income in Glasgow and the West when the football is on.
Increased tax take throughout the UK.

Will that cover the amount we send south to help pay for it?

I have no idea. We won't be able to tell until after the event, indeed probably many years after it. However, the question was "will Scotland see any benefit?". The points I made were suggestions of ways in which we will benefit in the short-term.

Will England, Wales or Northern Ireland benefit from Glasgow having the Commonwealth Games?
Scotland probably won't benefit from the olympics but I don't feel the need to complain about it.

possibly!...but probably not as much as the rest of the UK paid towards the Scottish Parliament building!

I don't know. Will Manchester or Liverpool or Birmingham or Belfast?
Where exactly should we draw the artificial boundary of grievance? At the Scottish border or shall we have it zig zag around various parts of England before crossing the Irish Sea?

Good answer, however I still feel my question is valid as we're still financing the facelift of what's the capital city of what may be a foreign country in a few years. That's obviously not the case in Liverpool or Manchester.

The truth is LONDON will benefit and who cares about the rest - isn't that the way it always is?
This is the 3rd time the Olympics have been in the UK and each time it was London I believe - what other country has the Olympics always in the same city?

There are events in Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Cardiff and Coventry.

I just listed the football venues, which are the only ones I knew about.
However, I have done some research, which I tend to do before I make sweeping statements, and there are plenty more.

I'll have to accept your word for it - I had a quick look at Wicki and the Summer Olymp. 2012 and all I could see were references to London.
Just found a reference somewhere to "Hampden Park" in Glasgow, which would be really funny considering the Scottish reticence to take part in the GB soccer team thingy ...

Yep, you couldn't make it up:
McGlashan: These evil English are keeping everything in London, its not fair.
Observer: No they aren't, there are events throughout the country including Scotland.
McGlashan: These evil English are forcing us to have events we don't want then.
Observer: Well many parts of England are holding events though not in the volume of London so this clearly isn't an England/Scotland thing.
McGlashan: It's not right, the Olympics should be in Hamilton......(continues ad infinitum)

About a third of the way down.... the bit where it says "Out of London venues".
Your point about the GB team is irrelevant, btw. AFAIK, they are playing their games in London. Hampden will be host to some of the other group games.

How much are we sending south to help pay for it? By 'sending south', I presume you mean out of the block grant?

Exactly. Too many irate Scotts with a chip on their shoulder. The 'us' and 'them' mentality is rediculous.

Of course there's no benefit to Scotland, why would there be? The events are held in London. The minor stuff outside of London is tokenism of the most embarrassing kind.

Olympic rules mean that only one city of a particular country can bid. I'd imagine that London is the only UK city capable of hosting an Olympics.
I think the minor stuff outside London is a genuine attempt to share about what they can - they can't bid as a particular city and then divvy it up around the country after they've won.
