What's the best in your opinion?

Ramseys of Carluke black pudding is by far the best I have ever tasted, have tried plenty including Stornoway but IMO Ramsays can't be beaten!

Halls and any other cheap supermarket black pudding is rubbish by comparison including any of the "top quality" english black puddings that I have tried.

White & Red Puddings...........................WTF is that all about?

If meat is murder, then black pudding is also murder.

White pudding isn't, so perhaps it's a treehuggers' alternative to black pudding?

I have to be honest and say that ASDA's black pudding is the best I've tasted.

Can't stand the stuff but my dad is something of a black pudding connoisseur and he reckons you can't go wrong with proper black puddings from Bury market.

I've had Bury black pudding and always thought it was pretty good until I tried the stuff from Ramsays, completely different texture to the Bury stuff and more moist.

I had some gorgeous black pudding a couple of months ago in a restaurant called Iris in Thistle Street. It was actually a South American version which was served with chorizo and a caramelised apple sauce. I wasn't sure at first, but yum!

I hope that wasn't too much of a struggle for you!

I love Stornoway but have never tried Ramsays. Where might one obtain this?

There's a butcher in Bruntsfield, opposite Montpeliers, that sells amazing black pudding. It could be Ramsays, definitely worth trying though.

Actually drive 24 mile round journey just to get some Stornoway gear. Only one I can stomach but never tried Ramsays so as DBS says, where can you get it? Couple of slices, lightly grilled with a tabascoed poached egg on each, sautéed mushrooms and a drizzle of balsamic would be my favourite brekkie (after a full f off fry up, but thats bad for you :greengrin)

That sounds great. Bar the mushrooms I might try that tomorrow. Will take some beating my eggs benedict though.

As per some previous posters, I've never tried better than Stornoway but I'm open to trying all suggestions. Except Asda!

Stornoway Black Pudding for me. I don't know anyone who sells it in Edinburgh, but there used to be a butcher in Rutherglen High Street who sold it. I don't know if they still do.

I get it delivered from one of the laddies pals who has a bacon/sausage/black Pudding delivery round, however it is stocked in Jenners and I'm sure I've seen both Ramsays and Stornoway black pudding in Bains the butchers & (pie shop) at Stenhouse Cross.

:agree:

I also love Stornoway. My father in law picks me it up frequently to the extent that I have a freezer full of it :greengrin Never tried the Ramsays one but I am only 10 mins from Carluke so there must be somewhere about here that sells it.

I'm going to hire a couple of gorgeous escort girls, blindfold them, then...

...give the a taste of some Stornoway and some Ramseys Carluke black pudding I'd previously cooked up and see which one they selected.

I usually get mcleods of stornaway black pudding. Superb stuff, someone at work got it shipped down once a month and at £6 for a kilo it was far cheaper than jenners etc were selling it. Sadly she's off on maternity leave the now.

John Brash butchers at Western Corner sells Charley Barley Stornoway black pudding for roughly £10 each.

Not bad price considering if you buy it direct from Stornoway you're looking at &7.80 each, then they ramp it up with the postage
