Thought I'd post this because I can't imagine many people will know about it.
If you earn less than £22k a year you can get a £500 grant to study part-time, I've not applied for it so I'm not that sure of the details.

Yea, it's good.
I've used it to pay for my HNC over the past two years - it takes me two years to complete my course on day release format.
The same grant was available from ILA Scotland but around May/June time last year SAAS took over from them.
I think the only T&C's for UK Citizens is that you earn < 22K per annum and that your course is equal to or more than 50* SQA credits.
* Don't quote me on that number!
I'm hoping that they will provide me with a student loan for the first year of my degree starting in September but noticed that UCAS had a link on thier website regarding student funding; I haven't checked it out yet...

There is a £200 grant as well (ILA200). I may have to go for that as they do not have any partnerships with the learning providers that do my course (as distance learning).
It doesn't specifically say you can't apply for both but I'd assume you can't.

I used the ILA 200 towards my LGV1 also a Moffet course the year previous, this year it's going towards an ADR or a Hiab course. Far too many people don't realise they qualify for this. :agree:

Sent away for my ILA funding on Monday in order to get training for my SIA door supervisor license, any idea how long it would take to get approved? got a course available on the 18th of Feb, should I have it by then?

It takes upto 14 days after you send the forms back Sean, you'll then receive an account number which you pass on to the course supplier when booking up, I'd give the supplier a phone and explain what's happening to see what they think.

Like you I'd assume that you can't apply for both - you couldn't when it was ILA who ran the ILA500 funding scheme as well. Might be worth checking out though....
All in all this funding has helped me a lot as although I earn a decent wage, I don't really have a spare £500 lying around to pay for each year of my course - never understood that one, it costs £200 to do a HNC in Computing on full time basis but £500 (per year!) to study one day a week at college for it.
