View Full Version : Stephen Mcmanus??

Heard that we have approached Middlesborough about a loan deal until end of season and wondered if anyone knows anything about this??

I think he is exactly what we need in defence just now and as he's not been getting a game under Mowbray recently there might be something in it.

No source as such, just what I've been told.

Would'nt be my first choice but better than O hanlon anyday.

Dunno whether I believe this or not, but it'd be a good signing. He's a very limited defender, no doubt about that, but he'd be a good defensive leader for us, always seemed pretty vocal on the pitch.

This would be a very good signing imo. Another experienced SPL player who would massively improve our defence. If he isnt getting a game then Mowbray might be more open to him coming to Hibs (assuming the player wants to as well!).

Stephen McManus is exactly the type of player we should be going for imo. He is a leader, he can defend well in the SPL, and might be affordable to us. I'd be surprised if we could get better, although nothings impossible.

If we can get him then it's a total no brainer!

Really looking for a midfielder who can pass the ball too!!!

While being pretty limited technically, the guy has played at the highest level in the Champions League and internationally. Assuming he's fit it'd be a brilliant signing, though highly unlikely.

Always thought he was over rated at Sellick but by that I mean unwarranted plaudits for really being nothing more than a good SPL defender as opposed to an international class defender and if he hadn't come thru the weegie youth then nobody would have looked twice.

For now though we need another centre half who is strong and experienced so I wouldn't be devastated if there were any truth to this rumour.

McManus and Caldwell were dismissed by many as being no great shakes, but Celtic haven't won the SPL since they stopped being their central defensive pairing.

McManus would be a great bit of business for Hibs - can't believe he's only 29 - but I would think it unlikely that we would get him. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

I would be surprised if it was anything other than a loan. Who knows he might want back to Scotland, be nearer wife, kids etc.

St Tony of Mowbray looking to do us a favour perhaps?

No way could we pay his current wages...

Surprised to hear anyone dismiss him as a good signing, think keeping him fit would be the major in this if he were to come as he seems to have been unfortunate with injuries. He would deinartley improve Hibs and be a good sigining IMO. A no brianer for me.

Mowbray tried to sign him on loan for us from Celtic back in the day.

Sky sports indicating interest from Bristol City and Ipswich would assume that would rule Hibs out unless he wants to move back here for family reasons.

Would be delighted if we pulled this off - a real no nosense centre half who will lead by example - will pitch in with a few goals as well.

Smells like another Hart signing to me. An injury prone guy who has played a handful of competitive games in the last three years, and who is out to scam a lucrative contract from some sucker.

Of course, you never know, but I get a bad feeling about this one.

Fair points. Why the Ipswich &/or Bristol City interest...?

Has he really only played so few game?

Former Scotland and Celtic captain in his mid 20's potentially coming to Hibs..... YES PLEASE! Would be great alongside Hanlon.

He has started 14 league games and 3 Carling Cup games this season so record not that bad just think the manager has preferred another player.

He's been there 2 years (including initial loan spell) and made 60 appearances.

He would be a great signing for us, he'd walk straight in the team and would be our best defender by a long shot!
Hope this rumour is true...it gives us hope as we've heard some shocking names linked with us

James McPake one of them, just coming back from a shocker of an injury, he's looking for games to get match fit.

Some lad from Hartlepool Neil Austin, never seen him play but plays in a team struggling in Div 1 england, cannae see him being any good

See what your saying but wouldnt say McPake is a shocking name to be linked with, given some of the other alledged SPL interest, as for the Hartlepool lad, well fair enough.
