WOLVES star Steven Fletcher has emerged as a shock target for … REAL MADRID! Jose Mourinho’s Spanish giants are on the lookout for fresh blood for their B team, who play in the Spanish Segunda Division B. They sent out their scouts to spy on the striker twice last month. Real have monitored the 24-year-old since his days at Hibernian and will continue to observe his progress. If he continues to improve the club will offer him the chance to join their development squad, with the prospect of graduating to the star-studded first team. Fletcher is a proven top-flight goalscorer and has been capped eight times by Scotland, but not since 2010 following a fallout with boss Craig Levein.

No way you would leave the Premiership for Madrid's reserve team.

Nonsence :greengrin

Good tweet by a spoof twitter account -

@CraigLevein: Great 1-0 win for Tottenham yesterday. Wolves crying out for a striker who can finish though.

Bit of an exageration if ever there was one, they were monitoring him as they were hundereds of young players throught europe and the rest of the world

Do Hibs get 5% of any subsequent transfer fees involving Fletcher?

Would doubt it. Already got a percentage when he moved from burnley to wolves.

Isn't there some rule that has to do with a player's youth development? The club who
brings a player through their youth system gets 5% of any transfer fees.

Says it all about the difference in quality between the two leagues.

Being touted to all the "big" teams in England already but would have to prove his worth in the 2nd division of Spain in a B team before being considered for a step up to the best league in the world.

Embarrassing for the EPL:agree:

I believe there is. I forget the exact figures and how money is distributed but it's something like a set percentage of every transfer fee paid for a player is divided among all of the clubs that the player played for before they were 23. Or something like that. Cant' remember the details. Legally, the buying club has to make the payments. Was chatting to a footy lawyer about this not long ago and he said it can be a real challenge tracing youth clubs of some players, particularly African players.

But I reckon oor Rod will already have invoiced every prospective future buyer of Steven Fletcher just to make sure there are no misunderstandings

He's a Liverpool fan too. Dalglish should have bought Fletcher instead of Carroll, no?

A player leaving a side in one of the top 5 leagues in the world to play at Castilla? Oh my sides!

Not making a jibe at the OP but wow.

Not really, Real Madrid even revealed they may have payed 4million. They wouldn't have came up with a price if they were only monitoring him.

Aye... and he just said "Naw, my place is with the mighty Hibs". :greengrin

Fletcher could go to Real Madrid, work his way up to the top and he still wouldn't get a game for Scotland.

They weren't "after him".

If they were, they would have got him.

They simply put a price tag on him for what they thought he was worth, but they never actually made any offers.
