I don't get your excitement...riots,a shooting and the country closed down. Great. Gawn yersels.

Their president is spot on. The country can't afford a subsidy that effectively just goes straight into the corrupt oil companies/refiners and encourages a huge cross border black market.

It's interesting to note that Nigera actually imports almost all of it's refined fuel requirements, despite being a substantial oil producer. Despite money and government efforts to change this most of the money was syphoned off long before it was spent on improving their refineries, all in an effort to maitain the status quo. More evidence I would suggest as to why this subsidy is doing much more long term harm than good.

Agreed, my original comment was firmly tongue in cheek, lack of smiley was a bad idea, but if you're living off $2 a day and the price of petrol suddenly rockets up to over $1 a litre, somethings gotta give.

When do you fly back? Are you still based in the Delta region?

Was supposed to go back on Tuesday. Changed it to Thursday, now looks like Monday. Lot of people stuck in Lagos airport yesterday when flights were cancelled. Lot of "Area boy" activity in Lagos, our security could not get to the office all week so far. Pretty dangerous at the minute, and you know my feelings on Nigeria. You staying in Lagos or travelling? I am still in the Delta for my sins.:greengrin

They stopped all flights to Lagos from the UK yesterday and now the ones leave are coming via accra to refuel. Nightmare.

Hopefully i'll be able to take off and will be safe on Victoria Island once there with the sun and sea.

Not much sea you would catch me in around VI Em!!!!! Just stay safe girl. Make sure you have security meeting you etc etc etc. Last report I saw there were lots of road blocks made with burning tyres etc. I am booked again for Monday but getting told not to get too excited (as if!!!)

My flight was on-time and there has been no violence. The strike is going ahead today but that just meant that yesterday the q for the fuel was insane, other than that everything is fine.
