I have a friend who is currently in the hospital with a rare arthritic condition called Still's disease. This has just been diagnosed this week after being "i'll" (for want of a better term) for over a year. Hospitalised over Christmas as was unable to walk.

Now , this person normally works part time and has been receiving sick pay for a while but has just been informed that it has now run out.

Said person has a family and full time working spouse who is currently off their work to look after the children.

I was hoping someone would know the following.........

Can this person get SSP even though they only work part time ?

Can they claim for invalidity until they return to work ?

Who is the best contact for this ?

This is a genuine claim as the person has set returning to work as their target of normallness .

Cheers

If all else fails get them to contact Citizens Advice, preferably ASAP as some stuff isn't backdated so the quicker the claim is made etc

Sure this type of info can be passed over the phone to them rather than have to go in for an appointment.

Sorry i've taken so long to get back to this thread.

Cheers for the info. it seems they may be illegible for DLA and some other benefit.
It will come in handy until they get back to work.

They don't qualify for sick pay as they only work part time and don't earn the required £100 per week to qualify.

Cheers again
