Dont disagree with Scott - that's a hard shift in there, playing in the middle with one up top. I don't think the others you mention can have the same excuse...
If Hanlon missed the ICT game having been ill in bed then I think he does have an excuse ... might be wrong, but Spoony was warming up and I thought he was going to replace Hanlon, but then they scored ...

Not up to the task. Clueless from start to finish. Worst Hibs side ever. That's all.
Not what we're looking for in a Hibs fan, predjudiced and reactionary from start to finish. Worst OP ever. That's all.

I understand what your saying about Scott it is a hard shift ,but if I can notice him making mistakes because of tiredness after an hour how come the bench didnt .
Having said that I thought Palson Stevenson & Nid worked very hard ,lumping balls in to the chanels to stretch them and get our midfield chasing onto help Griffiths is a hard shift if he
A He doesnt get it
B Give it straight back to them means we are turning and defending ,TBH which seemed most of the second half
C Depending how close a unit we are if nobody does his job or gets tired, switches off it leaves spaces which pulls Palson Scott and Lewis all over the place ,for my part I thought Murray strolled through that match

Fenlon has already got the team playing with more shape and they are more organised.
Also seeing a lot more commitment from some players.
He obviously see's something with Stevenson, which is IMHO a great decision as he has been playing very well recently. In the derby his early booking really muted his game, he couldn't play effectively as a defensive midfielder and break the play up properly. I think Osbourne coming back into the team will be great, with him and Lewis in the middle.
Stack
Hanlon O'Hanlon Murray Booth
Wotherspoon Osbourne Stevenson Sproule
Sodje/O'Connor Griffiths
Need better at CH. Sodje has been told he can go. Griffith's loan is/will be up. Sproule like playing with 10 men. :greengrin
No room for Doyle in your team??:greengrin

So did I - timed his heading far better than the guy next to him...

If a new centre half comes and right back comes in, then obviously they should be in the team :agree:
What about a mid-fielder like Morris from St Johnstone? Very experienced, commanding, certainly has the pedigree of the player we need

Morris is only 5'6, so is therefore verboten.
You know how our fan base hates small midfielders (or 'hobbits', as they are known). Its the root of all our problems dontcha know

Lucky Xavi, Iniesta and Messi all turned us down..
Seriously though in midfield in the SPL you need a playmaker - Stevenson who didn't do much against the yams has been playing well and tries to pass the ball every time he gets it - but is no Latapy or Zemmama. When Latapy was here did he not have Matty Jack doing the Makelele role allowing him to create more than defend.

I agree with you completely:agree: Ive been boring everyone who will listen for months that our first priority should be a playmaker in midfield.
When ive seen him play Morris has played in a withdrawn playmaker role like Boozy did in his first spell, or like a shortersed cockney Xabi Alonso. He would be an excellent signing (and likes the drink as well, so would fit in nicely in the dressing room).:greengrin

I must admit I had hoped we would get a new manager bounce and get at least one win in December and a couple of draws. I do believe he has the team is playing with a bit more spirit but lack of confidence.
As for playing players in their positions he tried Hart at right back in a few games, as did Brown, so he obviously believes that as well. I am sure this will happen as he develops the squad. I also picture 4-5-1 for most of this season to help claw us out of this mess.
Personally I thought the players were better than they are, I thought all the poor performances were primarily down to Calderwood not getting the best out of them......how wrong I was. On the whole this squad is worse than the squads which got relegated.
The bottom line though is that Mr Fenlon is on a lot of money to sort this problem. He now has to walk the walk. If I was employing someone on a six figure salary I would want to see immediate improvement and in football that is points. He put himself up for the job and has to prove himself now not in the new season in the first division. Unlike FH I wouldn't give him 2 or 3 seasons. By this time next year we all need to see something tangible happening or he isn't the right man. I don't expect this season to be great and being clear of relegation would be a minimum standard.(How low have our standards slipped.)
Our make or break game is at Dunfermline and nothing less than 3 points would be acceptable as he will have had time to freshen up the squad. Failure to do this and, like it or not, he will be under pressure. As everyone knows you never get the best out of someone working under extreme pressure and we could be facing another CC.
Not calling for him to get sacked but will do if we get relegated I will expect him to walk with the board.

Is he on a lot of money?
I imagined him being on a decent salary but nothing exceptional, nothing like someone with the experience of Calderwood, and that he would be getting more when he re-signed a new contract when progress was made.
I do agree with the part about 3 points being a must against Dunfermline, especially having had a couple of weeks to freshen up the squad.
However I think sacking him if we get relegated is not the solution. We need stability and sacking a manager 6 months after their appointment would do nobody ant good. One transfer window won't instantly solve all our problems, 2-3 might, but more like 4-5 is enough time to put together a decent squad and start challenging.

Caldo was on £250k+
Pat's mission is to finish 11th or higher this year I would suggest.

I Dont want to be negative as the Board have placed our club in PFs Hands but what if they have got it wrong yet again and the un thinkable he is actually worse than CC ?
i Know that is not possible and picking players names out of a bag would work better but 4 defeats and a lucky draw in what was our worst performance so far well so said PF IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED.
Martin Oneal has proved what can be done, anyway we are now in this boat RP And the board Have chosen PF All we can do is get behind him despite defeat after defeat his LOI Recruits i pray will sort us out.:flag::pfgwa

I`m confident Fenlon will do a good job IF given time by fans , directors and press . A good job meaning challenging for top 4 in league next season and hopefully even better after that . Cups are important but we can always have bad luck with draw or blow it on day . It`s a pity he hasn`t started at start of season since he`s got to fight off relegation before thinking about building decent team and that will obviously influence signings - may have to go for experienced players with limited ability when younger more talented players are available . Similar situation that CC had a year ago but with an even worse squad and fewer teams in SPL struggling too ( imagine some SPL clubs will struggle to repeat early results from now on - certainly hope so ! ) . Would like to see more from club to improve atmosphere among support and at club in general - would benefit everyone in short and long term and would certainly make it easier for a new manager to really make a mark . Next 2 games are really important and sort of matches ( away but near Edinburgh in cup then crucial league match ) where we used to take a big support but I don`t see any sign that club are encouraging fans to travel, even though we get share of Cowdenbeath gate receipts . No buses arranged by club , no encouragement to buy tickets ,... And for home matches , what about trying to fill empty seats that look so bad on telly and contribute to negative atmosphere in ground ? Cheaper tickets for front rows , invite schools / juvenile clubs , free tickets for supporters clubs from outside Lothians for some matches etc Am getting away from topic of manager but if he`s to succeed club and fans have to do more too .

If you read these comments in the context of the posts what I am trying to say is that we are allowing our expectations/ targets to be set too low. We need to beat Dunfermline or we are really going to have an even longer hard season with no room to develop for next season. Every game would be a dogfight. At least a win against Dunfermline would allow us to look up rather than down.
Regarding the second point if we find it acceptable for PF not to keep us up and make excuses for him, I for one would not find that acceptable, it would be Groundhog day with CC or Duff Jimmy. He is a highly paid, experienced professional with half a season to work his magic with over half his games against the bottom sides in the SPL. Would that be acceptable to you? All professional people would be set objectives and I would accept a minimum acceptable standard to be maintaining our SPL status.

Or when someone asks him "How much are you working for Rod?"
How does a £900k loss fit with the picture that you're painting of Petrie being tight? Surely if he was as tight as you're making out there would have been no way we'd have been allowed to make a loss, drop in income or no drop in income...

Indeed, that's right, although apparently Fenlon was expected by a good few folk on here to pull the rabbit out of the hat and somehow win games with them. It would be funny if it wasn't so desperate and absurd. I agree he should have made the subs earlier, but I would also be kidding myself if I really thought that would have changed the final outcome of the game. 5 games with the worst squad in living memory and he is the one taking stick for it. The guy has an utterly thankless, near-impossible task ahead of him, he seems to me to be a big improvement in terms of his attitude towards the job than his predecessors and there's already folks saying he is not up to the job. My God, who would be Pat Fenlon right now?
:top marksGreat post - Fenlon has had a tough start and deserves a chance (as any manager would) to pull things round. Sure - a few more points on the board would have been great at this stage, but I see a team that is better organised and harder working than the one that Calderwood left - that's a decent return on barely over a month in charge IMO, even if we'd all have liked to have seen a few more points on the board.
The task is NOT impossible though - but the next few weeks will be crucial in terms of getting the fans on song and getting a bit of bounce going on in the dressing room. Beat Cowdenbeath and we have a potential cup run. Beat Dunfermline away and all of a sudden relegation would seem that bit less of a worry and the team could then approach a home tie vs St Johnstone with something approaching confidence.
Even if that were not to happen though, there is still the effect a raft of Fenlon's own new signings will have upon the team to consider, which makes the posts on here writting him off as a dud at this early stage nothing short of ridiculous IMO.

When all your highest-paid employees are on fixed-term contracts and a lot of your expenses are fixed (i.e. match day, training centre and so on) then it's not very easy to quickly adjust the budget to match a drop in income. The fact that we made a loss isn't necessarily a sign that Rodders is getting reckless/loosening the strings. It could just as easily be a sign that they couldn't get spending down quick enough.
PF will get my support ENDOF. Hughes dug the hole and put us in in.... Coco the ****ing Clown told us he was going to rebuild the team but all he did was dig the hole even deeper and he left us in an even bigger mess.
Now PF is picking up the pieces and is desperately trying to get us out of this hole, a few signings, wether on loan or permanent short deals the problem is still there IMHO.
I fully expect us to stay up this season. We need a break, starting on Sat cos a win might get the fans to EEP on 14th. 11th will do me this season and I confident that we will not be in this position next year.

Fenlons tactics were pretty bad today. Griffiths up front on his own was never going to put them under pressure. Fenlon looked happy with a point as he was going to bring wotherspoon on until they scored the second. We didnt have a shot on target all game. We never threatened all game and IMO the formation and team selection was bad today. Fenlon should have changed things on about 70 mins. Hibs are a shambles and we dont look any more organised than under calderwood. I do hope its ALL down to the players, but Fenlon made a few mistakes today.
