Hopefully :greengrin. Nah seriously not heard that but it wouldn't surprise me if it was true. The arbroath game was abandoned on Monday due to high winds.

It might be due to the traveling conditions for those coming down from Inverness Mikey, it's not too clever on the A9 by the looks of it.

The winds for Inverness and Perth are forecast to be less than we're getting.

I wouldn't grumble if it was off. Footy in high winds is rubbish!

I hope the players are well up for it, but - being realistic - football in a gale is a bit of a lottery. It's frustrating to watch players struggling (even more than usual :greengrin) to control the ball, and attendance is likely to be affected as well. I'm hoping it doesn't go ahead if the wind is still as strong tonight.

They say the wind is a leveller, so Hibs should have a decent chance tonight.

Going out for a few beers this afternoon before the game, so hopefully if the games off, I'm at least in the pub by that time. :greengrin

The wind is supposed to start dying down by early evening. :aok:

It is totally crazy of the SPL to have Inverness travelling down here for a night game at this time of the year-similarly Hearts to Aberdeen-I thought the idea was to boost attendances-just to help of course the OF game is on TV.

Sky will be delighted that the orks in the west will have had all day to booze in the pub so the level of poisonous bile is even greater. Of course, the presenter will then commend the 'great atmosphere' as usual.

Harden up Scotland I say! Game off due to a bit wind, have a word! It's pishing rain and blowing a gale nearly every week in Wellington and a game has never been called off!

I would say that up to a point it is personal responsibility with regards to attending the game tonight, if you feel for whatever reason the wind compromises your safety stay at home and don't bother. However when there is a risk of structural damage to the stadium or areas around the stadium then the Police have a decision to make and should ignore the moaners and put the game off if they believe there is a public safety risk.

Also we wouldn't expect players to play on a waterlogged pitch and anyone who has ever played football will tell you that they prefer playing in the rain to the wind. If the wind would seriously inhibit the ability to play the game properly (if you can call how Hibs play properly) then it becomes a footballing decision and the referee has a big decision to make.

I would say if we start cancelling games in Scotland for wind and rain then we may as well shut the SPL down.

As for the Polis, they only need the slightest excuse to get out of doing any work.

You can tell by looking at Fir Park that the elcetrics are probably dodgy and there is a chance something might fall off it.

I don't think the winds are forecast to ease off until late tonight, after the game has finished.

The rain's supposed to stop by the time kick off comes though.

It's going to be pretty wild tonight.

I'm only quoting Radio Forth. Get along and follow the team, we need every supporter we can tonight

You lot not going due to wind ought to take some concrete pills.

Still raging after Saturday's collapse, I'm sitting in warmth with a can of bud in my hand looking out the window and thinking, sod that for a game of sudgers. Two tickets not getting used from my house I think.

I am in Queensferry and it is howling wind and rain, horrific weather. If it's like this in Leith then no way it will be on.

Same in Leith but game still on, against my better judgment I have decided to go, I must be mad, time to get the thermals out. :greengrin

I'll iron my skirt and tights instead.

At this moment in time (5.30) if the game goes ahead then it's nothing short of madness to try and play football in this weather, plus the fact you really have to be a brave soul to sit at ER to watch it, for those who are going remember any jumping up and down to keep warm and you'll be tossed out

It's more the bunch of gutless bassas that wear the green that's putting me off, the weather is just making the decision that bit easier. I've already paid my money which in turn helps pay the afore mentioned gutless bassas, so what's the problem?

The ugly sisters game could now be in doubt due to structural damage to the stadium. Further news expected shortly - according to Chic on the Beeb radio news.

just back from the borders to EL...we were sheltered at my sisters by hills / wind direction. Here it is just now only slighly less than the recent 'once in 10 year' storm.....

Would not be going out were it not for kids having party in Tranent....as thats half way and they need collecting later...so i will be one of those stupid enough not to be in front of a roaring log stove

Can you think of the possibilities for comical errors...no doubt our forgiving support will see it as crap players rather than cut any slack

The weather forecast seem to be a fair bit off!

Just heard el Chico on Beeb Radio saying that there are problems at Parkhead which he will update on later.

Here in the Central Belt where winds were supposed to fall away around 3 p.m., it's still a hurricane at quarter to six!

In times when the game is in free-fall from the core out, we are expected to travel to a game that sounds as if it will be no more than a "Lottery"

Will the SPL ever get it right before it's too late, hope so, I really do .......

As it stands, I wouldn't pay to watch a game in this weather.
(for the record, it's blowing a gale in the borders)

Is it not the case that people are just looking for excuses not to go? Its either too cauld, too wet, too frosty, too dark, too hot , too late, too early and now its too windy. It is desperate times for the club yet we have posters on here more or less boasting about not going at a time when the club desperately needs their support
Why don`t they just admit that they have given up on Hibs.

Just stepped out and that is unreal to play football in. Call the game off for the safety of all supporters. There are roof tiles flying off roofs and trees coming down. It's alright saying back the team but you're mad if you think football can be played in this.

Not a problem mate. I have paid my money in advance as well and because of that im going to go along and cheer the gutless bassas on.

Not just your post but the thread seemed to be turning into a severe weather warning not to attend the game.

Picking up son then off to match soon.........conditions the same for both sides but must be a bit of a lottery - gale force winds in Granton right now.

Win the toss and take the wind at your back in the first half would be my call.

The Tay Bridge Disaster

Beautiful Railway Bridge of the Silv’ry Tay!
Alas! I am very sorry to say
That ninety lives have been taken away
On the last Sabbath day of 1879,
Which will be remember’d for a very long time.

‘Twas about seven o’clock at night,
And the wind it blew with all its might,
And the rain came pouring down,
And the dark clouds seem’d to frown,
And the Demon of the air seem’d to say-
“I’ll blow down the Bridge of Tay.”

When the train left Edinburgh
The passengers’ hearts were light and felt no sorrow,
But Boreas blew a terrific gale,
Which made their hearts for to quail,
And many of the passengers with fear did say-
“I hope God will send us safe across the Bridge of Tay.”

But when the train came near to Wormit Bay,
Boreas he did loud and angry bray,
And shook the central girders of the Bridge of Tay
On the last Sabbath day of 1879,
Which will be remember’d for a very long time.

So the train sped on with all its might,
And Bonnie Dundee soon hove in sight,
And the passengers’ hearts felt light,
Thinking they would enjoy themselves on the New Year,
With their friends at home they lov’d most dear,
And wish them all a happy New Year.

So the train mov’d slowly along the Bridge of Tay,
Until it was about midway,
Then the central girders with a crash gave way,
And down went the train and passengers into the Tay!

The Storm Fiend did loudly bray,
Because ninety lives had been taken away,
On the last Sabbath day of 1879,
Which will be remember’d for a very long time.

As soon as the catastrophe came to be known
The alarm from mouth to mouth was blown,
And the cry rang out all o’er the town,
Good Heavens! the Tay Bridge is blown down,
And a passenger train from Edinburgh,
Which fill’d all the peoples hearts with sorrow,
And made them for to turn pale,
Because none of the passengers were sav’d to tell the tale
How the disaster happen’d on the last Sabbath day of 1879,
Which will be remember’d for a very long time.

It must have been an awful sight,
To witness in the dusky moonlight,
While the Storm Fiend did laugh, and angry did bray,
Along the Railway Bridge of the Silv’ry Tay,
Oh! ill-fated Bridge of the Silv’ry Tay,
I must now conclude my lay
By telling the world fearlessly without the least dismay,
That your central girders would not have given way,
At least many sensible men do say,
Had they been supported on each side with buttresses,
At least many sensible men confesses,
For the stronger we our houses do build,
The less chance we have of being killed.
