The guy seems like a bit of an idiot but when your job is to hit someone as hard as you can and as often as you can you have to wonder what kind of mental state some of these guys are in

Mayweather is one of the most supremely talented boxers ever but he's also an idiot.

A lot of his nonsense pre fight is playing up to the pantomime villian and he's generally very complimentary and respectful about other fighters after a bout. However there is clearly issues outside the ring.

He's surrounded by the wrong people for starters. He's a poorly educated guy who has earned millions of dollars with the only guidance on spending it and conducting himself coming from his team, mainly equally ill educated members of his own family or friends. He also has people around him who constantly indulge hin and feed his ego, even Golden Boy promotions let him away wih absolute murder in the things he says about them and Oscar De La Hoya because he's worth so.much money to them.

Underneath all the bravado there is actually quite an insecure guy there. Watch the 24/7 episodes before.the Marquez and Ortiz fights and he constantly complains about other people hard luck stories getting more airtime than his. He seems just to want to be.noticed and liked but has a strange way of.going about it.

Shame Larry Merchant had't been 50 years younger he could have sorted "money" out. Weve just had another thread about another rich athlete being an r.sole, money and power at an early age not a good idea.

And well said Chinaman the purpose of boxing is not to just keep on punching someone, it is to hit and avoid being hit. If you watch people like Pernell Whitaker, Sugar Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali in the 60's , and even "Money" himself, then you can witness a skill, almost an artform, when it comes to the display these guys put on. Even Benny Lynch Scotlands first World Champion (and thats linear not alphabet) when he was finished fighting, and battling with alcoholism, used to put a hankie on the floor of his local pub he would place one foot on it and he would invite another guy to put a foot on it and the guy would swing a punch to see if he could hit Lynch, if he failed he had to buy him a drink. Suffice to say he was never hit.

Imagine that, a hanky fur crissakes. So theres a bit more to it than just hitting people.

Floyd was due to begin his jail term today.

However his lawyer applied for, and was amazingly granted a delay until June 1st to allow him to fight on May 5th.

The reasoning behind the decision was that a fight in Vegas on that date against Pacquaio or another high profile opponent could generate $100M for the local economy.

The law really is bizarre at times.

Just heard this on SSN.

That really is unbelievable.

Apparently his lawyer argued that the fight would be good for the city and the judge agreed!
