I'm posting this thread with info for any Hibees who want to help with the campaign that has started to keep Leith Waterworld open. Time isnt on our side. We've only got to Monday 8th January to try and press the case for at least a rethink or a delay.

SPLASHBACK! website with updates contact details etc is:
Splashback! (http://www.splashbackedinburgh.blogspot.com/)

And there's a bit there for signing the petition, so please sign up to this one :faf:

Twitter: @splashback

Its worth sending your email address to [email protected] to go on the mailing list.

Every councilor, MP and MSP in Leith area and nearby - irrespective of political party - will be lobbied/targeted to speak out publicly against the closure.

Other ideas have been proposed too which will be discussed on Monday. Nothing has been ruled out at this stage.

This is one cut too far. Kids in Leith deserve much better than this from that useless shower in the High Street.

Not sure if I managed to sign the petition or not, very confusing, however I have sent the letter to my councillors in Leith. My wee one loves that place.

Signed.

Don't understand why they need to shut it. The place is always heaving when I take the boy there.

Not sure how the council can justify pishing £15k down the drain trying to bail out Hertz yet can't keep open one of the few leisure facilities of its kind in Scotland.

Maybe they should stop thinking about a Community Stadium and try looking after the facilities they already have.

For some unknown reason this has been a troubles facility from the start....the Splashback websaite doesn't seem to explain why the Council are looking to close it, I assume it's losing significant sums of money?! Also is it not run by Edinburgh Leisure and not the council?

according to Councillor Brock it is being done to raise capital for the redevelopment of the commie pool, I am assuming because that project is running over budget.

Council owned but probably ran by Edinburgh leisure I would guess, I think it has been suggested that Edinburgh leisure buys it but not sure if this will happen.

And quite why Edinburgh Council and not the Scottish Gvt is paying for this upgrade for Glasgows Games is absolutely beyond me.....

It's badly designed, expensive to service and is heavy on staff costs.

Having said that, it's a cracking facility which I'm sure could be refurbished or remodelled to make it run more efficiently. Selling seems to be an easy short-term option.
