TWO new tournaments will boost the Australian PGA’s prize coffers by more than 40 per cent in 2012, the tour’s chief executive revealed yesterday. The Perth International Golf Championship was unveiled, 24 hours after the announcement of the NZ PGA Pro-am Championship, and between them they will add at least AU$2.3 million in 2012, the tour says; a 41 per cent increase. “With these two new tournaments and with the continued growth of OneAsia, we are working towards a vibrant domestic and regional tournament platform for our growing elite ranks,” said Brian Thorburn, of the Australian PGA. The 2012 PGA Tour of Australasia schedule starts in the first week of January at Spring Valley with the Victorian Open, run concurrently with the Women’s Victorian Open.
