I wondered what other Hibs fans think of our current strip. I would like to see us go back to our original colours from Turnbulls Tornado Days Namely A Darker Green top with White shorts and Green socks with White banding. I dont think we look right wearing all Green. Lets get back to basics.:flag:

We were formed a good hundred years before the Tornado's era!

Im well aware of when we were formed Im looking for other fans opinions please Im simply saying that the strip my favourite players wore is the one I prefer. Will we ever see the likes again of Stanton Cropley, Edwards, Duncan, Brownlie. Black, Gordon, Sheidler, O'Rourke.

Our origional strip was green and white hoops! Not so sure about that being a goer.

I like the green (with white sleeves) that the New York Jets play in, it's a shade officially called 'Hunter Green' and is about half way between the two shades of green we have on this years home strip.

It's just that you have twice mentioned original in your post.

The 70's one is a classic and I very much agree with your thinking on what our strip should look like but it's not the original Hibs strip.

The best strips we've had have been based on this as well - the 91 League Cup winning top and the Sauzee and Mixu era number are two of my favourites over the years.

I'm pretty certain our original kit of 1875 was a white jersey, white breeks with green trim, and green socks.

IIRC it was a Guernsey jumper. Like the one below but, as you say, green and white hoops.

Must have weighed a ton especially when it rained.

Unless I'm mistaken (I often am), the green-with-white-sleeves was adopted in imitation of the strip the great Arsenal team of the 1930's wore. We substituted an emerald green for the scarlet of the Gunners' shirts, and the same shade hooped stockings for their scarlet ones.

After the war we simplified again - changing to all-green stockings. THAT IMO is the 'classic Hibs strip' of the club's best and greatest years.

Apart from the design of the collars, the strip stayed much the same until Jock Stein's time - he decided for a reason that escapes me that when we played the friendly against Real Madrid we should wear green shorts with the regular shirts. The result was that on the black-and-white TVs of the period, we looked exactly like the Eintracht Frankfurt side that Real gubbed at Hampden 5 years earlier.

I agree - playing in green shorts looks awful. Hibs should play in white shorts. The Famous Five did; the Tornadoes did. Green shirts with white sleeves, white shorts and green stockings, and as you say, a slightly deeper shade of green than at present. And don't make major changes to the home strip - mess around with the away strip and the third strip as much as you like, but Hibs should play in what once was one of the classic strips of British and European football.

(http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Scottish_Football_League/Hibernian/hibernian.htm)The only complain I have about this web-page is that the shade of green's too light. In my memory we played in a darker, emerald green. I remember my first Hibs scarf was in that shade - much darker and quite distinct from the scabby rags worn by the Unclean Ones From The West.

It was a request from Real Madrid that Hibs were not to wear white shorts (so the white Real strips stood out) - originally it was considered that we would wear red shorts but finally green shorts were chosen

I remember my first scarf too. My granny must have knitted it and it went around my neck 6 times and still dragged along the floor. :greengrin

Maybe the shade of green depends on whether it was a Kodachrome film or not...or if we used Daz for the wash that season...

My ideal Hibs kit would be clean and simple - Dark green body, not quite as dark as the bottle green away kit but not as shiny as the current green either. A simple white collar, or either a v-neck or round neck, full white sleeves and green cuffs. Plain white shorts and green socks with white turnovers or white socks with green turnovers. The away kit would be the same, but reverse the colours. There's no need for daft lines, flashes etc on any our kits - We already have an instantly recognisable and distinctive kit.

Not necessarily - not if the logo's well-designed.

RED SHORTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scary but true Doddie :agree:

My personal favourite is the 1972 - 1974 kit as depicted on the historical kits site though I agree the emerald green should be deeper in colour.

Meanwhile I've bought myself one of these http://www.hibsshop.co.uk/cat-85-subcat-314-product-3855 :greengrin

I fear that the present team may make us never want to see the strip again if they were to wear it.

They could ruin something fantastic.

Maybe if a team goes on a 10 match winning streak they can wear it once.:flag:

Were biological washing powders in use back then?

That's the strip I've always associated with Hibs but I'll concede that younger and even older supporters than myself may differ.
