I've just finished reading the excellent Sauzee book and have started on the Gordon Smith publication.

There is a mention in the Smith book about his time playing with Matt Busby. It also mentions Busby played for Hibs as he was based in the Scottish Borders in Kelso.

Does anyone have any details as to Matt Busbys time in Kelso?

Matt was in the Army Physical Training Corps based in Kelso - he played at least 40 games for Hibs between June 1941 and February 1943, scoring 5 goals (including 1 against Hearts) and was in the 1941 Summer Cup winning team. :not worth

I believe he also played in the 8-1 win over Rangers & Matt wrote the foreword for 100 Years of Hibs.

Hibs always had a special place in Sir Matt's life and he kept an eye out for our scores.

I once had the great pleasure of meeting Sir Matt and chatting with him. I was at Old Trafford for Arthur Albiston's testimonial and met Sir Matt in the players lounge after the game. His eyes lit up when he heard my Scottish accent and his whole face lit up when he heard I was a Hibs fan

Lovely man and still revered both sides of the border
