Can we please give the board a break! They've tried to do well by us!...

Calderwood- Solid record in England
Hughes- Fans' (cheap) choice, mistake. The fact that he couldn't string two words together should have been a clue!!
Mixu- Had done ok. Popular (cheap) choice. mistake.
Collins- Potentially fantastic. What went wrong?
Mowbray- INSPIRATIONAL.
Williamson- Supposedly solid....ahem! Board mistake.
Sauzee- Who wouldn't have taken him on?
McLeish- Strong appointment. Best available.
Duffy- The only obvious blank!
Miller- Yaaaaaaaawn. Board was too loyal for too long.
Blackley- Who wouldn't have taken him on?
Stanton- Who wouldn't have taken him on?
Auld- Could have done better! But a high class pedigree.
Ormond- Who else to follow Turnbull? Who wouldn't have taken him on?
Turnbull- The magician.

That is one good set of appointments. They didn't all work out. Unfortunately the recent good ones pissed off pretty quick! Money talks!

Now tell the board they suck!!

No one can deny that Hibernian FC has seriously under performed for a club of its size over the last 30 years. Apart from the odd League Cup win we have won zip and punched well below our weight. And don;t get me started on how bad our Derby record has been - in a 2 horse race. A few of the appointments have been ok - Turnbull (genius), McLeish (pretty good) and Mowbray (inspired) were all great appointments and brought Hibs fans moments to remember. The rest were basically failures - some of them spectacular.

Boards are not there to be popular, make the obvious choice, act as lay people or fans. They are there to make the right decisions for the club and on the whole they have failed when it has come to picking a successful manager. In fact their record is so bad, sticking a pin in a list of candidates would probably have given us a better return. From top to bottom, the club looks stale bereft of ambition, self-belief and drive. You can only blame one group for that - the Hibs Board.

A friend has just shared a link to a "sack the board" protest on Facebook. 7-10 tomorrow night at ER.

I was reading 6-45pm start and the shareholders join the meeting at 7pm and the other fans protest outside. AGM last 90 mins. Protest wont be anything like 3 hours.

It is another way for fans to get the message over to the board and STF. We have had enough.

Again Hibs fans putting the boot in, the guys are trying to get the message across that enough is enough, nowt wrong with that, Petrie needs to get the message. If I was back in Edinburgh I would support it aswell. Weve turned into toothless fans. Why do we find it necessary to rip into the ones who are making a stand for the club they love??

true rubbish idea. we should praise petrie for loosing 1000s of season tick holders, running up millions in operating losses in last few years, no more family silver to sell, product on the park being dire, more managers than hot dinners.

I believe people should have the right to protest at anything they want but in this case I have to completely disagree with those standing outside ER right now.

What an absolute embarassment to see people shouting 'sack the board' just a few paces away from the latest addition to our fantastic ground.

Are all the protesters under the age of 25? They must be because they wouldn't remember the dark days of the Mercer take-over and how far we've come since then.

Yes, for the most part, the on-the-field levels have fallen short over the last few years but to be standing there on national telly I think is wrong.

He cannot live on the coat-tails of the good forever, good for him he diverted a huge chunk of some transfer money we got to help stablise the club, but for me he is now doing damage to the club, for all the money that came in thanks to the scouts he has possibly just cost the club a fair bit of money.

No sane investor would put any money into any Scottish club. Football in Scotland is littered with the carcasses of otherwise sane, successful business men who pump millions into their local club and get treated worse than Satan himself.

On another thread a poster asked we thought changing a manager would change anything at the club. I defended the fact that, hopefully, a new managerial team would bring the club together in a lot of different ways.

However, I would take the opposite view when it comes to changing the board. What makes people think anything would be different? Would it not be a huge gamble?

I'm glad you've acknowledged that RP has done some good at the club. What would you have liked him to do different during his tenure? What consequences would the club have faced if he'd have done those different things?

It's a little bit different when it comes to managing a football team because things are a little bit more black and white (or less grey!). Each decision will probably see an immediate improvement or deterioration. When it comes to matters of finance, I think things are a lot more long term.

I am not for one second saying that the board and RP have done everything right. I just don't think change for the sake of it is what we need right now. I also don't think that RP deserves the abuse he has been getting but that is my own opinion and I can see why people are lashing out.

It is not for sake of it though we simply should be doing a lot better to even slightly justify all the expense on the infrastucture, Rod Petrie IMO is found wanting on football matters, we are at the stage or should have been on football issues other than building/investing and imo failure.

For a club of Hibs' size, building/investing and investing in the football side is a balancing act. Every penny is a prisoner for us.

I do think that RP has done a very good job in the main but has taken his eye of the footballing side of the business. I do not believe he should go because of it though. I think it would be a waste.

Instead of 'sacking the board' would it not be an idea to bring someone onto the board who is a 'football man'?

Anyway, I'm going to leave this thread to updates from the AGM.

Even if they were under 25, what's your point??

No doubting we've had 25 years of progress but there comes a time for change. Our time was about 3 seasons ago.

If you need you need change in the world then you need the youth to drive it. If that's what it takes at hibs then so be it.

I'd argue the older generation of fans have been accepting the same old ***** for too long and just can't be arsed to do the right thing!

It's our club, not petries or farmers. If we want change then we can make it happen.

No, in fact the exact opposite!

Yams have been bending over and recieving romanovs fat one (I have no proof he has a fat one) for a good 5-6 years now.
Apart from the open letters signed on kickback and the odd hat getting kicked about theyve just accepted it

On the other hand year after year after year the hibs board have asked us to accept their apologies for yet another failure (does nobody else think its strange that we have sacked another manager just days before the AGM?)
Some hibs fans have had enough and they're trying to do something about it, others are like yams and just accept it, roll over and take it!

In this financial climate the main criteria for a chairman should be someone who can run the club well and keep us on a sound financial footing. That for me, for now, is Petrie.

Tbh I'm struggling to see what the current Board have done wrong. They've made what looked at the time like good managerial appointments, they've funded them and backed the managers, and the team continues to perform badly.

In this financial climate the main criteria for a chairman should be someone who can run the club well and keep us on a sound financial footing. That for me, for now, is Petrie.

I am talking about the financial footing that has taken us from what.....£20 million in debt........to £6 million in debt with a payment plan to pay that off. I am talking about the kind of financial footing that also has our assests worth a lot more now.

I get your point about the product on the park, but two things.
1. the wage to turnover ratio is higher than its been for a long time, and business wise shouldnt go any higher!
2. even when we had the product on the park, we still have half our support that only come out for cup finals. If they all came to ER then think of the money we could spend.

Frankly whether we like it or not , we have no choice

RP will leave Hibs at a time of his and only his choosing.

Now there is a school of thought that says lets make life so uncomfortable for him that time will come sooner rather than later.

I dont hold with that at all

Hibs needs to be run as a business to ensure we are always here

That means that there is always going to be a tension between what the business needs to do and what the fans want to happen

That wont change whether RP is Chairman, or anyone else

These though are really dangerous times for Hibs in particular and Scottish Football in general
