Ruth Davidson. A young, openly gay woman, who was only elected as list MSP in May.

I don't think she'll make that much difference to their election performances up here, but will be interesting to see what she brings to the table.

Feel a bit sorry for her. Just don't see how she can turn the Tories around in Scotland - I'm not sure anyone can when you look at what comes out of Westminster.

I think you're right, especially as she was so opposed to Murdo Fraser's "scrap it and start again" idea. Not that I think that would have worked either.

Ironically, the massive job of turning around the fortunes of the Scottish Tores was made harder by their (kind of) election at Westminster.

Genuinely fascinating. Judging by her victory speech she's probably not the most articulate lesbian scottish tory out there. But its a pretty narrow field so you never know.

If her laugh and patois when she presented on Radio Scotland are anything to go by she's got some ways to go.

I don't envy her at all. I think she's the wrong appointment. The Tories are dying on their arse in Scotland. 8000 eligible members, 64% of them could be bothered returning the envelope, of which just around 40% voted for her. It's a poor show.

Scotland needs centre right representation.

I learned today that she is the daughter of referee Bobby Davidson. Those old enough will remember him from the sixties and seventies.
