I attended the conference today and surprised on two counts.
1. The deputy leader candidates Ian Davidson and Anas Sawar were head and shoulders above the leadership contenders.
2. How poor the 3 leadership contenders were. Tom Harris fluffed his speech, Ken Macintosh makes Ian Grey look interesting and Joanne Lamont is just bitter.
What stood out for me is that clearly Labour MPs have more talent than their MSP colleagues. If this is not addressed then wee eck will continue to dominate Scottish politics. I hope Anas Sawar stands for the Scottish parliament next as he is clearly the most gifted politician of his generation.

What did you think of Ian Greys speech ?
Personally I cannot believe how bitter and undignified it was.

Never stayed in for all of it. Some of my delegation were thirsty and wanted to watch the huns. But I know Ian well. He is hurting because he knows he failed big time. Got his chance and failed to deliver big time. Interestingly when I've been in his company he is quite charismatic when its a small informal group. He is also Hibs daft. Down at the greenock by-election we were both standing talking about Hibs and GOC with Ed Milliband standing there wondering what was getting us so animated
