It's no surprise, really. They were set up as a charitable organisation, by Brother Walfrid, to take care of the East End poor and charity has been their watchword ever since.

Personally, I don't see what the fuss is about.

So they must now concede that Dublin turning the lights on to guide the Nazi bombers to Liverpool was perhaps an error of judgement?

Glasgow celtic, Glasgow celtic, are you Jambos in disguise?

Great sum to give for a great cause. PR Stunt. Bored of OF self preservation but cash makes a difference. Hope it upsets their support at same time . Double bonus. Lets see the huns match it and everybody wins

Good to see Celtic dipping into the biscuit tin for such a good cause.

Shouldn't we all just be giving our money straight to hearts tho ;-)

Its a good gesture from the club but I would imagine it won`t go down well with a large percentage of their supporters.

The annual Celtic/Remembrance Day/silence/poppy wearing shenanigans.

It's as wearily predictable as a penalty at Ibrox. Good on them for their donation etc. Look forward to reading more griping about whether we feel they are observing it correctly to our high standards and discerning opinion.

That won't go down too well with the republican element of their support, particularly the Green Brigade.

They've only just been able to hang their banner the right way up again following the departure of John Reid as chairman. This news will have them back to square one.

Dublin was bombed by the nazis in 1941 - some suggest in retaliation for sending emergency services to assist in the north during the Belfast Blitz.

Actions talk louder than words. Well done to the Celtc board for getting behind this. Hope that they go as far as sanctioning bucket collections as well, and see if the support can dig deep for real heroes rather than cowards in balaclavas.

So they must now concede that Dublin turning the lights on to guide the Nazi bombers to Liverpool was perhaps an error of judgement?Glasgow celtic, Glasgow celtic, are you Jambos in disguise?is that actually true? I would be genuinely staggered if so, and if so, why the British Govt didnt see fit to eviscerate Dublin.

I might have been an unintended consequence of Dublin not having a total blackout but I doubt it was done to aid the Nazis.

I might have been an unintended consequence of Dublin not having a total blackout but I doubt it was done to aid the Nazis. That would make more sense. To accidentally or inadvertently assist the Nazis is an awful thing, but to deliberately point the way would be an act of war and warrant retaliation. Im sure i read about or maybe saw on coast that Ireland deliberately set up decoy lighthouses on the west coast to confuse the Luftwaffe too..

What a load of utter drivel. How is that drivel? Many Irishmen died in world war one how about their sacrifice being dignified by Celtic and their fans rather than those of terrorists?

I thought their banner last year was a disgrace, but if the club choose to reverse that position and, in doing so, donate 10k to a very worthwhile cause then good on them. I also think it puts pressure on those who held the moral high ground last year to stump up. That's no bad thing either if it raises even more money.
