Yes, was something. Although I'm never sure how much I believe this stuff until it happened to me.

Totally agree, as amazing as it was I think I remain a tad skeptical as I've never experienced hypnosis. He made it look so easy, truly frightening. Well worth a watch for those that missed it.

Was only hypnotized once and shared the experience with 11 Yams on the pitch and 100 more 'crammed' into the away end, when Hibs played some bamboozling football to narrowly defeat their city rivals 6-2.

It was repeated last night, truly frightening if it was genuine. I am also skeptical as I just can't get my head around how hypnotism works, the bit that convinced me most was the ice bath part.

Re Derren Brown, what happened?

Spoiler Alert

Short version is he hypnotised spmeone to assiasinate a celebrity, and they did (or at least believed they did - the aim was to se eif it was possible along the lines of the Sirhan Sirhan murder of Kennedy, where it was claimed he was hyponotised by the CIA.

Agree, the ice bath convinced me. It's just strange because what he's doing looks so normal and everyday it's weird to think his actions are putting people into a trance. I guess I'd have to experience it to truly believe it.

No doubt Derren Brown is a supreme hypnotist and I like how he explains that he simply uses how the mind works to do it. Obviously he is highly skilled at placing these blocks and suggestions but he does take the mystery out of it a touch.

He is also a great showman so he blends his skills with a good dose of showmanship and misdirection…which of course adds back in all the mystery lost by his basic explanations of the fundamental techniques.

I think the main thing to remember is that he carefully chooses blank canvases that are open to his suggestion and then edits weeks of work into an hour show. I also noticed that the shooter stayed in a trance after he had ‘shot’ Fry and needed Derren to bring him out of it so making him complete those actions might have taken a bit more than the auto suggestion that was portrayed.

The sitting in the ice bath thing was pretty impressive but so was the part where he was turning on and off the two guys pain reactions after they had taken their arms out of the ice bath …that was bloody amazing.

All in all pretty thought provoking stuff and I think Derren really shows just how complex yet simple the human mind is….everybody can be influenced (otherwise we wouldn’t have a million adverts to view everyday) he just takes it a million steps further.
