View Full Version : No Midfield

Our 'midfield' is playing far too deep. They're essentially playing on the back-fours' toes. Consequently, the opposition is invited to press forward, free from any challenges, right up to the edge of our penalty area; and when we decide to attack there is no one through which to play the ball progressively, so we resort to aimless punts to the isolated centre forwards.

Worrying that this has not been addressed when it seems to be a pretty clear defect in our 'system' (whatever that may be).

It's a deliberate strategy...

Our midfield is non existant. We have some players running about in the middle of the park trying their best but as a unit they are abysmal.

Do we really need a midfield? The ball goes back to front and bypasses the midfield :greengrin

Is that not the problem with the team just now ?

Have to say I pointed this out weeks ago that we completely abandon the middle of the park when we defend, and end up with 8 or 9 players in a corridor about 10 yards outside our penalty area, basically inviting the opposition right down on top of us before we we even challenge them, rather than having a couple of combative midfield players out amongst their players in possession trying to harrass them and break them down. It's schoolboy stuff, but for some reason our glorious leader and super duper former international centre half manager apparently can't see this. The man is a dud, plain and simple, our defence has been the most consistent in the SPL since he took over, its been a shambles from day one and has'nt improved, he continues to play out of form players no matter what (how the hell is Paul Hanlon untouchable, he has been rank for months, and like Lewis Stevenson has'nt developed as a player in 2 or 3 years !!) This current manager will get us relegated, be in no doubt, he is clueless and uninspiring, and simply cannot sort out the most basic of problems, of which he himself is the most pressing, sing it loud, sing it clear, Calderwood out NOW !!!!

He just needs more time to let the team gel and to cut out the silly mistakes.

That's true but if we are to improve and start winning matches we need to get the ball down and pass it around like the decent teams in football do. :agree:

However, we desperately need a creative midfielder (preferably two) but have for months now and nothing has been done about it!

Osbourne looks like he might be a decent addition to the squad but we do need a "Zemmama type" desperately! :agree:
