Spain are the current World Cup and European Champions but are considered to be only the 2nd best team in the world!

What a load of bull!

It's done on a points system, and Holland have overtaken them. The World Cup was last year, Euros in 2008 therefore time has made the rankings change.

True that it was a while ago, but rankings based on friendlies is crazy. Friendlies are meant for tinkering with squad and trying new tactics etc and IMo shouldnt count towards ranking. teams like England moving up places because they never played and other teams lost is also crazy!

Lies, damned lies and statistics!

The FIFA world rankings are a decent indication of football nation's staus but no more. EG - I would be happy enough to accept Holland as one of the top 5 nations in the world at the moment but there's no doubting who the real top dogs are right now.

As basehibby has said, the FIFA rankings are an indication of a nations football status but nothing more. England even being in the top ten is probably debatable going on results and performances over the past 5 years.

My top five would be:

Spain
Brazil
Germany
Netherlands
Argentina

As an aside, I was really impressed by Chile at the last WC, a bit lightweight but the tempo of their play, movement and passing ability was superb IMO.
