Whiling away a spare moment i wondered what the Hibs team was ten years back when we played Celtic.

It was rather good (http://www.teamtalk.com/match/23303/lineups)

Nick Colgan
Ulrik Laursen
Grant Brebner
John O'Neil
Gary Smith
Matthias Jack
Tam McManus
Colin Morton
David Zitelli
Frederic Arpinon
Garry O'Connor

Subs

Ian Murray
Alen Orman
Paco Luna
Craig Brewster
Tony Caig
Ulises De la Cruz

Question though - I have absolutely no memory whatsover of a player called Colin Morton. Is this right?

According to Soccerbase, that team is totally made up. And there certainly was no Colin Morton.

Hibernian
A. Caig, A. Orman (G. Brebner, 83), G. Smith, M. Jack, U. Laursen, U. De la Cruz, I. Murray, J. O'Neil, D. Zitelli, P. Luna, T. McManus (G. O'Connor, 73)
Subs not used: F. Arpinon, C. Brewster, N. Colgan

Might've been a decent team on paper, but was the start of the great decline just prior to McLeish's departure and THAT managerial appointment.

Interesting.

But we did have a Colin Morton, apparently - Squad number 30 for two seasons at that time (http://www.myfootballfacts.com/Hibernian_Squad_Numbers.html), but I have absolutely no recollection of him whatsoever.

Just looking at our stats for that season, quite unbelievable really. We lost 8 games all season, 5 of them coming in our last 9 matches - some of our attendances when we were flying were really poor too: -

Very interesting and pours cold water over the "if we had a better team I would go along arguement"!

That was the previous season when the Main Stand was out of use. Split south stand, season petered out a bit, up to January most games were really well attended. The attendances in the far less successful following season were much higher.

I do know all that, I was there

Some attendances before the stand came down were still really poor.

Not Really. That was one of the seasons of the 6.05pm kick offs on Sunday and other Sky weird and wonderful times. The season before that we had nearly 15,000 at ER for a Raith Rovers game.

Plenty of Saturday 3pm kick offs there with really poor attendances - our first home game of the season on the back of 9 summer signings had an attendance of less than 10,000, Dundee Utd would have brought a decent support back then too.

The Raith Rovers game at ER was on Boxing Day when we were flying at the top of the league.

On the back of that we would have to sign 16 new players this summer to get our new ground to home capacity - I dont see that happening!!

Not if you look at the stats over the last 3 years that Brown, Katey etc were with us, upward spiral I think the buzz words were.

9 McLeish signings would equate to maybe 2 good players though!

I don't ever recall Dundee United having a decent support at ER

That team really reminds me of the way we used to play back then. Colgan would roll out the ball to Gary Smith, who was just superb for us, and then we would just hang on for a goal, No sign of Paul Fenwick in that line-up? He C (came from) Morton so he could be the mystery player.
